In the world we live in today, our life requires us to be active and most of the time we are very busy. For a while now the big controversy is are you choosing bottled water or tap water? There are many debates over the topic, however, most people would say that they chose bottled water because due to the fact that it is more adapted to our up-tempo lifestyles. Yes, there will be people who can say “you can carry tap water with you wherever you go too!” but there are various ways that bottled water is preferred over tap. People are drawn to bottled water more than just drinking tap because it is more cost efficient and bottled water companies also allow people to have jobs to support themselves. “A two-year long test was conducted in 42 states and 141 unregulated chemicals were found in the water, 260 contaminants altogether” (Tap Water in 42 States). Another argument people who support bottled water could say would be that, “bottled water only accounts for less than one hundredth of one percent of all the world’s water consumption, so if BW companies shut down the world wouldn’t be really affected because it is rare it ever gets contaminated” (Fager, 2). Tap water supporters can argue that even though tap water can get contaminated it is tested way more than bottled water is. According to Standage, “New York City tap water was tested 430,600 times in 2004 alone” (2). Another argument against bottled water could be that tap water is free. Tap water is free, but bottled water supporters will say it's only 10 cents a bottle, (but C’mon it's free!) The main argument people say tap water is better because tap water is way more useful in our daily lives, we can use it to cook, bathe, wash our cars, and fill our pools. However, there are many more downsides to tap than there are good. There are many more cases of tap water being contaminated than there have been of bottled water proving that bottled water much safer to drink. Also to say tap water is free, take into account that most people who rent or own homes have to pay a water bill. “Even a public water fountain is not dispensing “free” water – someone is paying to maintain it” (Water Is Not “Free”). Using water to wash cars, bathe, and cook all make the water bill higher making tap water way more expensive than BW.
Therefore to most people, bottled water will always be the way to go. Bottled water is less expensive, way more adjusted and suit to our active lifestyles, and continue to be the best water resource to go to during disasters and emergencies.
