Prompt 1 Taking risks is a task I do not like to partake in as it forces me to take a step out of my comfort zone. When I received this assignment and read the prompt, I realized that it was all about taking risks and that I had no other option but to take a risk myself. However, the risk that I have to take cannot be over any type of social media, but in person with someone whom I have the most complaints about. This is when I decided that I would need to have a mature face-to-face conversation with my sister, who I have not seen for over 5 months since she attends school in Michigan. The only way I was going to have this conversation with her is if I took the most safe and modest risk possible.

The uncomfortable feelings I experienced was annoyed that I had to be the one to speak up, angry because it is frustrating to know that my own sister does not even want to talk to me, and then impatient because I am tired of waiting for our relationship to get better when neither of us is doing anything about it. My non-constructive behaviors included taking a nap, watching Netflix, hanging out with friends, eating, and online shopping. Before using the defusion technique, my non-constructive behaviors was the way I ignored all of the thoughts in my head. That is when I realized I needed to do something about my thoughts and used the defusion technique to see my thoughts for what they were, just words, and to just let go of all the struggling with them. Defusion can be best described as freedom from self-limiting beliefs. This means that it interrupts unhealthy and unhelpful thought instead of getting rid of them completely. It is essential within the defusion technique to realize that your thoughts are just words and that they should not have any control over your whole life. Some common defusion techniques include recognizing the thought, turning your thought into a song, thanking your mind for the thought, and doing a silly voice with your thought. The defusion technique does not magically erase your unhealthy thoughts from your mind, however it helps you cope with that thought and make you realize that it has no power over
