To take a look into Ramses II life you would have to understand a small amount of who came before him and what they did to have dominance of Egypt at that time. Horemheb who was pharaoh while Ramses I accompanied him on the throne was a great soldier and he was also a very good administrator. He did his best to get rid of all the corruption that had been going on in Egypt for many years. It had destroyed and brought down most of the country in trade in respect, before he would eventually die he regained esteem and respect throughout the rest of western world at that time. While Horemheb was trying to restore order in his country he had to had to elect some type of council. While electing this council and group of collaborators he noticed a young soldier who rose to very quickly to the rank of a troop commander(). This young soldier that he notice was Pa-Ramessu which would later become Ramses I. The pharaoh noticed how this soldier rose through the ranks and later appointed him as Royal Evoy to Foreign lands, which gave him the responsibility of transmitting diplomatic communications to other countires. After the pharaoh so how well he could handle that job he was then presented with the title of general and was so good at that Horemheb told him to take command of the fortress of Tjaru. This is the place where all military expeditions going through the east would have to pass through. Pa-Ramessu had earned the respect of the pharaoh so much at this time that he would eventually become the pharaohs’ right hand man. This would later lead to him becoming Ramses I and becoming pharoh over all of Egypt, but before then he was Pa-Ramessu the crowned prince over the entire country. Ramses the great tomb is located in the Valley of the kings maybe one of the most prolific tombs in that Valley period. His tomb is now empty though because they took his mummy out of there a long time ago. After many years of terrible weather and people coming into ancient Egypt and robbing these old and great tombs most of his tomb is destroyed. There are many efforts today to try and preserve and bring the tomb back to life as it once was during Ramses time to present it for the entire world to be able to gaze upon the greatness of his majesty. Although he was buried so long ago they say that Ramses the great mummy was one of the best preserved and one of the best bodies to with stand the hands of times out of all of the mummies that came around during ancient Egypt. So even after the death of this pharaoh he still can be called Ramses the Great.
Ramses had a harsh and profound life, yet he was able to accomplish, build, and expand so many ideas across Egypt and even into today. Ramses II made most decisions based on his involvement whether that was war, politics, or ruling. Egypt had to rely on Ramses II to be Pharaoh when his father died. This step in which Ramses had to take at the age of 19 was hard to fulfill with only some training by his father. Ramses was able to accomplish many innovations that have survived to be around today. As ruler Ramses was also the leader of his army and led many battles including the famous war between the Egyptians and Hittites. Ramses created the first treaty to be written down after a war. Ramses has been known to be one of the most profound Pharaoh in history. Even though Egypt relied on Ramses II to be Pharaoh at such a young age, Egypt did not rely just on his judgment, but rather his personal involvement. He expanded Egypt to its’ greatest and highest with a thriving economy and enriched structural growth. Ramses II led for 66 years bringing Egypt to its’ highest power, territorial gain, and economical wealth.
Pyramids, gold, the Nile, hieroglyphics, gods and goddesses…no matter how much we know about it, we all see one of these things when we picture Egypt. However, this image is not complete without the Pharaoh. Not much in Egypt was. So to be considered “The Last Great Pharaoh of Egypt” is quite an honor, an honor that Ramesses III carries. A ruler in the time of the New Kingdom, he gave Egypt a few more years of glory before it’s decline.

As the recognized birth place of both human existence, as well as the rise of civilization. One of the more significant and more influential figures in the discussion of ancient mythology is Osiris and the history and depiction of him in Ancient Egypt. This story outlines many influential things in Egyptian society, such as the conflict between order and chaos, death and the afterlife, conceptions of kingship and succession, as well as many of the early influences of Egyptian religion in the early stages. Much of the evidence of Osiris lies in the Pyramid texts, seeing as the timeframe for the myth was around 24th century BC. Many of these same texts arise in the Middle and New Kingdom of Egypt and are influential in Egyptian folklore, as well as the storied history of the civilization. Many of the figures included in the legend, which include Isis and Horus were prevalent in many clans throughout Egypt. Much of the history surrounding Osiris has been lost, but many ancient historians and famous writers in the ancient world attempted to piece together his story.

In the 5th year of his reign, Ramses defeated an attack by the Libyans from the west, and two years later he routed invaders known as the Sea Peoples. In his 11th year he again repelled an attempted attack by the Libyans. Ramses was also a builder of temples and palaces in the tradition of his 19th-dynasty predecessor, Ramses II. His victories are depicted on the walls of his mortuary temple at Medinet Habu, near Luxor. Egyptian records tell of a strike by workers at Ramses's burial site and a plot against the king near the end of his reign. Ramses III was the last of the great rulers and after his death there were centuries of weakness and foreign domination.
It’s a valley in Egypt that was used for over 500 years during ancient Egyptian times as a resting place for Pharoahs. The site’s most famous Pharaoh buried at the site is King Tut, which started the Pharoah’s Curse legend when a group of Archaeologists died excavating the tomb. As a young crown prince, Ramses II was appointed a co-ruler by his aging father, Seti I, and fully inherited the throne at age 24 when his father died. Even before he became Pharaoh, the young prince was known as a courageous warrior. At 22, he was sent to quell a minor revolt in Nubia. He brought along two little sons, and they took part in a chariot charge, according to a scene depicted in a carved relief on the walls of the Beit El-Wali Temple south of Aswan.
The Egyptians created Ramesses’ statue 1279-1212 B.C. using granodiorite. The statue is currently being exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Its dimensions withouts a base are 59 3/4 x 23 1/2 x 30 inches (seems bigger than life-size). One must look at the statue from various sides in order to see its entirety. Ramesses II, known also as Ramesses the Great, ruled Egypt for over sixty years. there are thousands of statues made in his honor to proclaim his power and divinity.

As king, the pharaoh had many duties that were civic and religious. The people saw him as the living Horus and the son of Ra. They believed only pharaoh could sacrifice to the gods and only the pharaoh could appoint the priests to serve the gods in his place. The people believed that he became Osiris after death and would continue to help his people in the afterlife. Pharaoh was the commander-in-chief of the army and the highest judge in the land. The people saw the pharaoh as essential for keeping their lives in balance and keeping harmony in Egypt. His rule was absolute.
The fundamental features of the Warrior Pharaoh image during New Kingdom Egypt included; leading his soldiers into battle and returning in victory, attacking the enemy in his horse-drawn chariot which was adopted from the Hyksos, wearing war regalia , larger than life expectations and finally offering the spoils of war to the god Amun, the inspiration of his victory. Due to the absence of the their pharaohs on military campaigns, the Queens began to play a more prominent role within the New Kingdom Egypt’s society, however this was a short term consequence of the civil war as it was only necessary when the Pharaoh left to go to war or on a campaign. The rise in roles and prominences amongst the Queen’s slowly decreased towards the end of the war until Hatshepsut comes into power. After this the Queen’s involvement seems to disappear and we begin to no longer hear about
Hatshepsut was born into a wealthy, educated family; however, she displayed qualities that are innate among most great leaders. She was courageous, ambitious, confident, and innovative. This allowed her to become the female Pharaoh during the 18th dynasty, and in a male dominating society, this was seen as an accomplishment among historians analyzing women in power. Hatshepsut’s will to adopt the role as Pharaoh prior to her reign portrays her as a strong, independent female leader. Her building projects and further establishment of trade had a positive impact on Ancient Egypt socially, economically, and intellectually by creating opportunity and further expanding their knowledge. Ultimately, Hatshepsut is considered to be a very successful and influential leader within Ancient history.

Ramesses II, also known as “Ramesses the Great” was the third pharaoh of the 19th dynasty in Egypt. He came to power following the death of his father, Seti I who was pharaoh of Egypt. Ramesses II had a lengthy reign of 66 years from 1279 BC to 1213 BC, and during those years, he was regarded as one of the most powerful pharaoh’s of Egypt. Ramesses II can attribute the attainment of his power due to his use of propaganda, as evidenced by his often ostentatious displays and exaggerations of his achievements, along with the widespread locations of his propaganda and his use of propaganda in monumental buildings.
It is believed that the first pharaoh to build in the Valley of the Kings was Amenhotep I. The last burial in the valley of the kings is thought to be Ramesses XI burial.
...n 1163 B.C., Egypt entered a period of slow decline (Scarre 1997:116). Pharaohs became less powerful, and their prestige dwindled. Hungry soldiers were terrorizing the community, while tomb robbers were raiding the pyramids for resources that were very much needed. They had buried their pharaohs with food, goods and jewelry, all of which were needed to keep the civilization in tact. They had built too many pyramids, and there were setbacks in Asia which corrupted trade. People did not understand why the pharaohs could not fix the problems that were going on. They viewed them as gods and lost trust and faith. Egypt fell apart as these things culminated with loss of belief in the pharaohs.
