System Unit
Most of us have no idea what a system unit is or what it does. Most of us also don’t know what it does in the work of a computer, or what it is able to do. Some of us might not even know what it looks likes. Research can help us answer these questions, help us understand a little bit more about computers and what we are actually working with.
A System Unit contains electronic components that are used to process information and data in a computer. The main purpose of a system unit is to help store data in a computer. Another name for a system unit is a chassis; they come in many sizes and shapes. A chassis is made more of either metal or plastic which protects the internal components from any damage (Shelly and Vermaat). All of the electric components are located in the case of the system unit. In the system unit, everything is considered an internal hardware because everything is located inside the system unit. What is found in the system unit are things such as power supply, motherboard, disk, drives, rom, and rams. The system unit is important to any computer because most items of the computer are some way or another attached to the system unit (Computer Case).

The term motherboards, which are also known as system boards, are the main circuit board of a system unit, and are used for electronic components to be attached or to be built into the system unit (Shelly and Vermaat). A computer system comprises of one or several computers of which all of them are associated with the common software or rather one storage space. This system could have other computer peripherals connected to them. All of these computers can operate independently as well as the ability of communicating with each other.
The complete computer system consists of four parts; hardware, software, people, and data. The term hardware refers to the physical components of the computer, such as the monitor, keyboard, memory chips, and hard drive. The term software refers to the set of instructions that directs the hardware to accomplish a task. People are the customer operators, known as users. Data consists of raw facts, which the computer stores and reads in from of numbers.
The central unit is the basic part of the computer and includes all the main computer parts. It is the heart of the computer system. It is responsible for executing, or running the software. The software programs are translated into a series of codes made up of 1s to 0s that the CPU can understand. Every code means a certain operation should take place.
Every day the majority of us interact with computers in one way or another. Be it the computer we use at work or home, the computers in some of the newer cars, or even our cellphones, which are just small computers, we rely on computers for a lot of things. But not many people know how a computer actually works. What’s inside of a computer that makes everything it does possible? Three of the most important pieces of hardware in the computer are the hard drive, the Random Access Memory (RAM), and the Central Processing Unit (CPU).

The motherboard is the main piece of circuitry inside your PC (personal computer). Like the downtown of a big city, it’s where everything happens. The motherboard is important because the most important things inside your PC cling to it (Dais interview). In fact, for the most part, the computer tower is simply a housing for the motherboard. Although the motherboard contains a lot of items, it is essentially one unit and is referred to as such (Gookin 114). As an example, a mall has many stores, but everyone calls it the mall.
Hardware can be defined as the component/collection of components that together form the computer. These components can be found internally in the computer system (called components) or considered as peripherals and thus connected externally to the main computer system. Peripherals are used to integrate the hardware and software together.
Hardware and software combined with several other devices work together to makes up a computer system. One part has little value without the other. The components need each other to fulfill their potential. The way the components interact allows people to use the computer to complete many different tasks (Ambrose, 2005, p. 58). The purpose of this assessment is to recognize computer system hardware components including devices that perform the functions of input, processing, data storage, and output. The document will briefly describe each of these functions and give examples of the device that perform them. Furthermore, it will mention and describe the different classes of computers as well as briefly describe two classes of software with their examples.
An operating system (OS) is a software program that manages the hardware and software resources of a computer. The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system. The operating system programs make system resources available to user(s), the user’s application programs and to other application programs running on the computer. (From Silberschatz and Gagne et al., 2010)
In my opinion all computers systems have an important role in society, in education and in business because they can help us to many ways in our day-to-day tasks.
RAM is used for memory caching, which means when the computer’s in operation, programs use this hardware for quick access and has memory saved temporarily for applications that’s deleted once the computer’s powered down. A CPU is what performs the large part of information processing in the computer, this tells what each part should be doing and it also proccesses requests; whether it be to turn on a cooling fan or to accept information to provide processing for words. It’s very important that the CPU is cooled well as it generates a lot of thermal energy. This heat is dissipated using a CPU cooler which often consists of a heatsink and fan. Newer technology is using liquid cooling and a radiator, which is a quiet solution to keep the CPU cool. The GPU is what processes graphics to create a display. Some graphics cards are powerful enough to provide viewing in multiple displays. A higher performance graphics card requires direct connection to the power supply as the motherboard can’t keep up with the power consumption of the card. The motherboard is the main circuit board of your computer and is also known as the mainboard or logic board. If you ever open your computer, the biggest piece of silicon you see is the motherboard. Attached to the motherboard, you'll find the CPU, ROM, memory RAM expansion slots, PCI slots, and USB ports. It also includes controllers for devices like the hard drive, DVD drive, keyboard, and mouse. Basically, the motherboard is what makes everything in your computer work together.
A motherboard is a much larger topic to discuss. The motherboard sometimes referred to as the mainboard, system board, planar board or logic board is the main printed circuit board in computers. It is a large board generally made of silicon that holds basically all of the crucial electronic components of the system. Components such as the CPU, memory, optical drives, video card, sound card and connections for other peripherals are fixed on the motherboard. Motherboards vary greatly as far as what components they are compatible with. Each mother board only supports one type of (CPU).
