The play “A Christmas Carol – A ghost story of Christmas” by Charles Dickson, directed by James Black in Houston, TX was performed in a similar way in “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickson, directed by Michael Wilson in Washington, D.C. The both plays had similarities and differences throughout the play in which demonstrated different creativity from the different directors. The rating that was given by the reviewer of the play in Washington gave a 5 out of 5 star rating. For the play that I went to watch the rating I would give it would be a 5 star rating.
What if you never received your gifts from Santa on Christmas? Hurry Up Santa! News reporters make the situation worse, however, families all around the world still believe they could still have a jolly Christmas. Hurry Up Santa is an overall great play with an amazing plot and great acting, but has rather average design elements.
In the clip “The Not So Secret Santa” from the television show The Office US it shows that gift giving has a relationship with greed and the feeling of power/importance. This relates to greed because Michael gives his co worker Ryan a gift that was extremely over budget meanwhile he received a single mitten that would not benefit him in the future. Realizing that he has given a gift away that someone would benefit from and receiving something resembling little to no value to him. The type of gift he received caused him to become enraged with everyone and decided to change the game so that he would still have a chance of to benefit by being able to trade his useless gift for something more valuable. Michael shows that he believes that he is
St Catharine’s Santa Claus Parade Around this time of year we are all anxious for Christmas and what better way to prepare ourselves then to attend a Santa Claus Parade. I attended the St Catharines Santa Claus Parade in Downtown. I had many observations during my presence at the parade. The observations lead me to question why does this event takes place all over the world on every third Sunday in November. Usually it takes place in every city.
If you’re turning on the TV during Monday night’s prime time shows, expect to be treated to a little holiday fun. As we get closer to Christmas (it’s three weeks away, but who’s counting) the shows during the evening hours are getting more and more festive! This is a good thing if you love the holidays and all the joy that comes with the season. If you’re feeling it’s a bit too much, well, say hello to your uncle Scrooge for me. I joke, instead you can find a few less holiday shows on digital streaming right now.
Ah, to be a kid again. How wonderful it would be to relive the magic of Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a kid at heart and a true lover of Christmas. But as we get older and we realize that Santa Claus and the North Pole were just stories our parents told us so we’d behave, Christmas starts to lose that magical feeling. No matter how much we might still love it, Christmastime just isn’t the same as when we were young. And at a time of all the aggravating shopping hustle and bustle, dents in the pockets, headaches, traffic jams and long lines, I begin to realize that God has sent me the most magical Christmas gift of all, a beautiful three year old whom I can relive Christmas in all over. Through my child’s eyes, I see myself each time his face lights up at the sight of Santa, and I feel his anticipation each morning as he faithfully opens up one more window on the Christmas calendar. Tonight, as we decorate the tree, I admiringly watched his tiny fingers delicately place each of the ornaments on all the same branches until they drooped to the floor. So proud of his work, I secretly placed some elsewhere, as to not hurt his feelings, and wondered how many times my own mother had done the same thing. And after a long day of shopping and excitement, I watched his eyelids begin to droop while lying underneath the warm glow of the Christmas tree lights.
The Marxist viewpoint proves how sociological factors, such as wealth influence the characters, plot, setting, time period, or any other aspect of a piece of literature. It focuses on the relationship between different social classes and how the distribution of power, wealth, and materialism is determined.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966&2000) explains not only the life of the Grinch but the Whos as well. Through the theorists of Karen Horney and Erik Erikson, viewers can learn why the Grinch’s personality is formed. Not only had it formed, but through the years it transformed.
Although Santa has become the main staple of the Christmas season it is important to remember the true reason for the season. Jesus’ birth is what December 25 began as until Saint Nicholas day merged with it. Even though the character that has developed and encountered extremely drastic changes, he has almost always been a giving generous figure in society. “Santa is ‘an invention of the advertising industry’ and ‘a representative of consumer society,’ according to Bonifatiuswerk der deutschen Katholiken [Boniface of German Catholics], which seeks to restore St. Nicholas to his proper place in the Christmas season” (Sweas).
A man with a small heart, the Grinch, once thought, “Maybe christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more.” This brings a whole new meaning for Christmas. One that makes you think a little bit deeper about the things in your life. Instead of complaining about the presents you didn’t get, or the people you didn’t get to see, you should be thankful for the stuff you did get, and the people you did get to see. This winter break I am looking forward to going skiing, getting to sleep in, and getting to see family.
Emma, Marissa and I are in charge of the making the lefse. This has been our job ever since we were little girls, becoming experts through all our years of experience. My grandma makes the most amazing food and always has enough to feed us for a week. After we stuff ourselves full of delicious, lasagna, salads, and hot dishes all made with love and while the adults lean back comfortably in their chairs, us kids go put on our pajamas and troop downstairs to open our gifts. The most memorable gift would be the ring my grandma gave me that used to be my great-grandmothers who died a couple days after my grandma turned fifteen. My great-grandma loved to travel and had a great passion for fashion, so this circle of metal with a little diamond in the middle and a floral pattern surrounding it, had been bought in California and has been in the family since. “Bang, bang, bang!” A huge pounding comes from the front door. Dogs bark, adults grin, and we race to open the creaky door. Santa Claus, eyes twinkling, dressed in red with coal-black boots, and swinging a sack over his right shoulder, steps inside. He plops down heavily; ringing merry bells and passes them off to David, my brother, telling him seriously to keep ringing them so Rudolf won’t fly away without him. With wide eyes, little David shakes the bells with such rigor that if Rudolf was in the North Pole he would be able to hear them. We each take a turn perching on his knee, hesitant at first but then opening up and telling him our age and that, “yes we have been really, really, really good this year.” As Santa’s beard tickles our chin as we lean in close for a picture and his big belly shakes as he laughs at the same time as you start to giggle. Then he opens his sack and pulls out gifts wrapped in colorful paper for each of us. With a few cookies for the road, crumbs in his beard and a
Secret Santa gift giving events during the Christmas season have their roots in Scandinavia and have developed their own modern culture and rules. These rules naturally depend on the variation on form of Secret Santa that is being observed. For instance, Secret Santa raids have different rules from Dirty Secret Santas and then even more different rules than Secret Santa flash mobs. Every form of Secret Santa, however, has two basic rules that are particularly important: How much should the Secret Santa gift cost; and does the gift need to suit any particular theme? Whether the group opts for spending $5 or $50, naughty gifts or treasured momentos, the most popular Secret Santa gifts can be found on eBay.
We all know that Christmas season is the time for giving and sharing that gives us a satisfaction to ourselves. Helping others gives you a happy feeling and contentment. Giving a gift to a needy can be a very generous deed and it can be also self rewarding.
My grandma is 85 years old and she loves gambling, so we play rummy, but we bet money also. My uncle was a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas for two years; he is our dealer. Everyone is very competitive, which makes playing cards fun. We do not bet anything more than a few coins. No big dollars or anything. Playing cards is a good way to have a few laughs and for good bonding time with the family. By the end of the night, we make some hot chocolate and gather around the Christmas tree to tell stories. Some of these stories are sad, while others make us laugh uncontrollably. Christmas is such a happy time of the year. Counting from the start of our Christmas activities, until the end, my family spends approximately 15 hours together celebrating Christmas. This is the perfect amount of time too. It isn’t too much or it isn’t enough, it is simply
