Owning a dog comes with risk and with those risk are diseases, Leptospriosis is one of those diseases. Leptospirosis “has been attributed to more than 200 pathogenic serovars from the genus Leptospira” (Raghavan).” This disease brings deaths to dogs across the world every year and can be prevented by proper care and proper knowledge of the disease. The disease is not always prevalent in symptoms but the canine is the primary carrier of this disease, creating a large problem with minimal to do about controlling it. With a seasonal prevalence of canine leptospirosis cases, the disease can be evaluated and applied to future procedural warnings for owners. The Urocyon littoralis (Island fox) populations that inhabit the California Channel islands have significantly decreased since 1994. This paper reviews prior pathogen exposure in these populations, and examines the present threat through the use of a serologic survey of sympatric feral cats in 2001-2003 on three of the islands, and a survey of the foxes on all of the islands for antibodies against canid pathogens. The results suggest that the foxes were exposed to canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus, canine parvovirus, and toxoplasma before its population decline, while other pathogen exposure was rare. Feline panleukopenia is endemic to cats worldwide. The virus has been identified since the early 20th century. The virus is so severe that it was referred to as “cat plague” in earlier times when infections worldwide nearly wiped out cat populations in certain geographic areas. Now FPV rarely occurs in domestic populations in which vaccination is routinely practiced. There is a seasonality to the occurrence of FPV that usually coincides with the production of new populations of susceptible kittens. This seasonal effect may vary according to geographic location. In the northeastern United States, most cases of FPV are seen in the summer and early fall. However, outbreaks of FPV may occur at any time of the year. Credibility: A few years ago, my roommate Anna was desperate to find a new puppy. The easiest place for her to find one was an online site full of cute Pomeranian puppies. Although she really wanted to save a dog from a nearby shelter, she completely fell in love with a picture online of a beautiful brown and white Pomeranian puppy. Immediately Anna purchased the puppy online and ended up receiving the dog soon after. Paisley was a ball full of what seemed like healthy energy. Anna took great care of her and made sure she had everything a puppy needs. About three months Paisley started having seizures and was taken to the vet. Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based in love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns it, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can make them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day. Dog parks are a great place to take the dogs because it provides a space where they do not have to be with leash every time, while they can interact with other animals of their specie in a pet-friendly environment. Every city in the country should have at least one of these places, in order to help their inhabitants with their pets and because it is a good part of the life in community.

Leptospirosis is a major tropical disease which can be seen endemic in most of the tropical and subtropical countries affecting human populations. Leptospira is a genus of spirochetes and is known to cause leptospirosis. This genus family includes organisms and its variants with a lifestyle falling in the range of invasive pathogens to aquatic saprophytes. These Leptospira species has got adapted to various climatic conditions and environmental factors, thereby, acquiring a large genome and a very complex outer membrane. The outer membrane has got several proteins and features that are unique among these bacteria. These organisms can be able to shed through urinal excretions of the host and they can even survive in water, soil and human body! They invade human body through cut wounds, broken and/or the exposed skin, mucosal layers and so on. The mode and mechanism of infection of these organisms remained a mystery so far. However, more recently in human host, the host adaptability and immune responsiveness of a variant of leptospira sp., “L. interrogans” to host innate immunity was elucidated in infection or animal models although not very clear. A better and deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of these species in response to host’s natural or the innate immunity is obligatory to learn the nature of early leptospirosis.
