When people stop and think of violence, they usually do not associted such horrific acts within America. The types of violence that occurred within "Crips and Bloods," was the typical violence that we see in the Middle East. The foundation of these gangs were not violent, but developed once African American's contintued to be supressed and were told that they were inferior to white people. The start of these violent gangs was in 1961, this young black boy wanted to join the boyscotts, and he was only denied entry because the troop leader told him that the other parents may not approve. The only reason that they would not approve was because he was an African American.
When this young child was denied entry into a social club, he formed his own with the neighborhood kids. These social clubs were formed merely for the kids to feel that they were equal and had somewhere that they belonged. When the first club formed, fighting took place as only a means of competition, never to create fear. However, soon they would see what they had really created. During the 1950's rioting took place in this neighborhood for 5 days, and after that this social club would soon turn violent.
The next group to form that would give the people a place to thrive and do something for their people was the creation of the black panthers. The FBI felt that they were the biggest threat to the United States, so they had the founders either jailed or killed. This was done as a way to dissolve this organization, and try to continue to supress the Afircan Americans. This only angered them and caused them to become more violent, thus the birth of the most notorious gangs in America.

If they don't share a common goal or feeling, the group will not last. One common goal for radical islamic groups is the destruction of christians and jews. One common goal for the crips is the destruction of the bloods, and intergrating their gang within prisions, and everywhere else.
These four factors are needed for the success of any group, being violent or even non-violent. Businesses, schools, governements, families, and groups have these factors. In short, the creation of the gangs, crips and bloods, was the starting of race, supressing one group to remain superior. This was created by the people of America. America had the four factors when they started this war. And these gangs adapted those factors in oder to survive.

Gangs have been in existence since the beginning of the Roman Empire. There were speeches made by Roman orator, Marcus Tullius Cicero, which references groups of men who constantly fought and disrupted Roman politics (Curry, 2013). The history of street gangs in the United States begins with their emergence on the East Coast around 1783, as the American Revolution ended. Though many believe the best available evidence suggests that the more serious street gangs likely did not emerge until the early part of the nineteenth century (Sante, 1991). Although our country has had their share of feared gangs like in the 1980’s with the turf war between the Bloods and Crips, back in the 17th and 18th century the Mohocks of Georgian, England were one of the most feared gangs. What draws juveniles to the gang lifestyle? Many people will say that most gang members are children from impoverished communities, single family homes where there was no father present, or maybe there is a more psychological/sociological answer? By appearance and presence most gangs cause fear, crime, and disillusionment in the communities they occupy. Throughout history joining a gang has been perceived as a life without any reward, yet by joining this lifestyle many juveniles are able to gain the needed stability and security in their lives.
The large negative impact on Oklahoma that gangs have caused resulted in a change in our state. In all fifty of the United States, more types and groups of gangs are committing more crimes and illegal activity. Gangs have significantly impacted Oklahoma by increasing violence, homicides, and drug trafficking, and something must be done. The amount of people affiliated with gangs is rapidly increasing. Oklahoma authorities say that gangs are an urban problem. In a report in the year 2010, studies showed that all seventy seven Oklahoma counties had some form of gang activity. They first started forming in the state in the 1980s. Some gangs were started from locals, and others were formed from the west coast. There are approximately 120 different sets of gangs in Oklahoma City including many different ethnicities.
Crips are a major gang affiliation that was formed in the year of 1969 in Los Angeles, California. The two men responsible for its creation were Raymond Lee Washington and Stanley Tookie Williams. There is an estimate of 30,000 to 35,000 gang members in the United States. Bloods are also a major gang affiliation, and was created in 1972 also in Los Angeles. Pirus are the creators of this gang. Crips and Bloods have an intense rivalry between each other that has been going on ever since both were created(“Gangs”).Though the Crips and Bloods have a long history, they are just two of the gangs that exist.
Crips and Bloods: Made in America took place in south of Los Angeles focusing on gang violence among two fearsome African American gangs, Crips and Bloods. The documentary sends the viewer to the roots of the social strains of African American people that created Crips and Bloods. After the Civil War in the United States, slaves were granted freedom, they moved far from the south. As time passed African Americans were faced with many hardships from loss of jobs to racial profiling from law enforcement.
Prohibition sparked it, but things such as money, drugs, territory and a few others kept it going. Money for one was a very big problem that made gangs violent. In a time where money was few and far between, people had to do what was necessary to survive. People began robbing banks, stealing cars and even killing people for the green little piece of paper that makes the world go around, money.
Many people with the same hateful beliefs form groups to “take on” the specific people they hate. A typical gang is based on hating someone who isn’t like them.

Black Panthers were known to have offered a more reliable source of protection during this time than the police did for African Americans. The documentary, “Crips and Bloods: Made in America” talks about many social concerns. In the documentary, both discrimination and economics are the main factors for the problems in Southern California. The gangs started because of discrimination. By denying people because of their skin color to join social activities such as the boy/girl scouts is what led to the formation of groups that later turned into gangs. Apart from that, hatred and threats escalated the situations that then turned the gangs into what they are today. The Crips, originating in Los Angeles, California, are one of the oldest, largest, and most notorious gangs in the United States. They have been involved in murders, robberies and drug dealing in the Los Angeles area. The Crips are mostly identified by the blue color worn by their members. What was once a single gang is now a loose network of "franchises" around the United States. The gang primarily (but not exclusively) comprises African Americans. The Crips have an intense rivalry with the Bloods and are also known to feud with Chicano gangs.
Gang violence is a major problem in our society today. If nothing is done soon, gang violence could take place in our neighborhoods. MW Klein, a gang researcher, says that gangs are an aggregation of youths who perceive themselves as distinct, and that are viewed as distinct by the community. Klein also states that the gangs call forth a consistently negative image of themselves through their actions (Klein). To those involved in gangs however, gang membership provided a youth means of attempting to consolidate their gender identities (Douglas). Most of the early American street gangs have historically been ethnically based. Early gangs were mainly Irish, Polish, or Italian (Klein).
