The paper focuses on making the supporting film which is a good conductor and has a strong adsorbability in order to gain better performance of TEM. Superaligned carbon nanotube (SACNT) arrays have been developed in their previous research. In this research, they did several analyses and showed that SACNT films are able to meet the requirements such as conductivity, robustness for a supporting of TEM grids. The supporting films were made by cross stacking ultrathin superaligned carbon nanotube films. SEM and TEM results show that the size range of the holes is from several to hundreds of nanometers, and nanometer-sized holes are more than 60% off all holes. In addition, in the same area of a supporting film, the SACNT gauze has far more edges than the conventional one. The results show that TEM grids showed an improved performance than conventional amorphous carbon grids when characterizing the fine structure of nanomaterials.
The technical quality of this paper was quite good. Several testing methods were used in order to show superaligned carbon nanotube (SACNT) films are able to m...
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.
The films Bas Arto Leary and Caoineadh Airt Ui Laoire were based on the lament written by Eibhlin(Eileen in the movie) Dubh Ni Chonaill about the murder of her husband in the 1700. Caoineadh Airt Ui Laoire shows the viewer how a brave hero like Airt Ui Laoire could lose his life for resisting British imperialism in Ireland. Moreover, in Bas Arto Leary, Ui Laoire (Oleary) was killed for refusing to sell his horse and having an affair with his wife’s friend (Brid). Although there are some similarities in how both films tell the story of the lament, each film has a unique way of interpreting the story.

The movie Shock Doctrine revolves around the concept of the same name. The film begins by discussing psychological research on the effects of shock therapy. It is evident that a person under extreme stress and anxiety commonly experienced during a crisis functions and performs inadequately. It is noted that the studies are conducted by a man by the name of Milton Friedman, from the University of Chicago; the studies took place in the past, and some of the subjects are still recovering in the aftermath. From this research, interrogation techniques were learned and the concept of the shock doctrine was formed. Essentially through causing a crisis, the population of a country can be shocked into complying with accepting laws that favors the United States and capitalism. This theory coexists with Friedman’s belief in that government regulation is bad, and through a crisis a country would better itself with deregulation. The video uses Chile as an example and shows how America allowed a crisis to occur in Chile, through coups, interrogations and subterfuge. In the end a new government is formed that allows capitalism. Unfortunately afterwards violence and riots occur, as the rich gain most of the wealth and poverty rises. In addition to Chile, Argentina, Russia and even Iraq underwent the shock doctrine. Almost in every account, poverty rises and violence ends up erupting. The movie ends by showing how the US was in the process of the shock doctrine, and still is but the population has taken notice. Protests such as Occupy Wall Street are some of the initiatives necessary to bring awareness to the problems of class inequalities in order to prevent capitalism from benefitting the rich and increasing the wealth gap among the classes.
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
Playwrights various techniques to create a comprehensive tale that isn’t in the traditional novel format. Lorraine Hansberry uses acts and scenes, accompanied by dialogue and stage directions, to paint a picture of the African American’s struggles in the mid-1900s she titled A Raisin in the Sun.
es indeed, animation is fun for children, but it also expresses important ideas for people of all ages. In some ways, ‘Shrek’ is your classic fairy tale for example, it has a hero, a beautiful Princess, and a dastardly villain. But unlike the traditional fairy tales, the hero is an ugly, ill-tempered ogre, the Princess is not all she appears to be, and the villain has some obvious shortcomings. The award-winning animated film, ‘Shrek’, is directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the viewers learn that being a good person is more important than just being good-looking. It also shows that true friends help each other in difficult situations and that women can be equally as strong characters as men. These ideas are portrayed through characters such as Shrek, Princess Fiona and Donkey. The directors use camera angles and dialogue to express their ideas.

With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.

Christopher Nolan’s 2010 action thriller Inception provides a discerning outlook into the specificities of human thought processes and dream meaning through exceptional cinematography, labeling it an exemplar of filmmaking. The film follows the ambitious corporate thief Dom Cobb as he attempts to infiltrate a man’s mind and place an idea through the act of inception. Employing “dream sharing”, Cobb controls both the appearance and feel of the subconscious world, but at the alarming cost of being trapped should he fail his mission. Nolan brilliantly combines mise-en-scéne elements of setting and sound design, with inimitable cinematography and editing styles to project the dream world on a film medium, narrating a story that reveals the blurred line between fantasy and reality. By doing so, the film builds upon traditional conventions of moviemaking while developing its own style and motifs that are remarkably distinctive.
As transistors get smaller and smaller, silicone transistors are shrinking rapidly to nearly atomic scale. As silicone transistors reach that size, it starts to become ineffective. Transistors has reached a saturation limit, where if made smaller electrons cannot be stopped from source to drain. Graphene now comes into the pictures. Graphene, is the hot topic that every physicists, material scientists, and electrical engineers have been talking about. Why did it garner such popularity in the scientific world, and deserve a Nobel Prize? One, out of many great future application of Graphene is further the shrinkage of transistors. Dominated in a world of silicone transistors, as it is being shrunk to near atomic sizes there emerges many limitations; one of which is the halt of further improvement in transistor speed. Graphene is composed of single carbon atoms bounded together to form a flat hexagonal plane, where one carbon is at each of the six corners. Multiple hexagonal shapes are connected together to form a plane. The “miraculous” physical aspect of this composition allows the e...

Offering the unique ability to visually and audibly convey a story, films remain a cornerstone in modern society. Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
