Suicide can be defined as the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. Suicide is a devastating societal issue that has affected all forms of social class, race, and economical class. The numbers behind suicides are staggering. There are many reasons that have been researched and studied on causes of suicide. Suicide is often committed out of despair or attributed to some underlying mental disorder, such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism, or drug abuse. Pressures or misfortunes such as financial difficulties or troubles with interpersonal relationships often play a significant role. Sociologists today consider external circumstances, such as a traumatic event, as a trigger instead of an actual independent cause. Suicides are more likely to occur during periods of socioeconomic, family and individual crisis. Most people with suicidal tendencies tend to suffer from some mental illness or some degree of anxiety disorder. Suicide has become increasingly substantial problem that these studies have been applied in every facet of life including to where people live (http://psychology.wikia.com /wiki/Causes_of_suicide). State by state, county by county, even city by city, each area has some type of organization that has done some type of research into the depths of suicide. In Louisiana, the amount of information into the causes and prevention of suicides is mesmerizing. This paper will further analyze some the theorized causes and show some prevention methods that can be found in Louisiana.
