Sugarcult’s Record Rundown
The band has been implemented into dozens of both TV and movie soundtracks due to their innate ability to produce music the masses can relate to. The Santa Barbara band will always be able to produce both studio and live albums because of their strong following around the globe. Japan has been particularly supportive of Sugarcult and in turn the group has rewarded them with great music. Regardless of how many side projects Marko DeSantis is involved in showing his countless facets of skill he will continue to work with Sugarcult because there is no band that can hold a candle to the group.
Eleven was Sugarcult’s first stab at songwriting. Santa Barbara band wrote some of their purest music in their formative years. The album was released as a demo then a reissue not most bands who start off with a demo that is reissued like many other bands. Both "Debbie" and "We Come Crashing Down" made the cut from Five to join Eleven. The alternative rock album featured songs such as “Make Up (Pretty Waste)” describing a Barbie doll type woman who conceals her persona with war paint. The album borrowed songs from their album named Five which was not widely circulated. The song “I Changed My Name” describes a friend with the boogeyman in ballad form. Furthermore, the line “And everyone turns tricks for fickle fame” describes why changing your name can run parallel to changing your band’s name as DeSantis mentioned when expanding on the fact the group could change their name with each album. The 90’s rock band took a turn with the soulful “Underwear” song showing they have diversity beyond their widely known alternative punk vibe.

...kely since they are known to be the most welcoming country to a band. Many of the songs on the album abandon the traditional pop-punk tone and have an alternative vibe balancing out the album in conjunction with the discography as a whole.
Tim Pagnotta has been enjoying the band’s hiatus by writing for other music artists. The songwriting Sugarcult listeners have relied on continues to be as pure as the first songs were when the group originally formed in Santa Barbara, California. While Los Angeles continues to be muse not just a song the band will evolve no matter where their journey takes them. The journey is embellished by the bevy of songs that can be transformed from a studio recording to an acoustic set followed by a live version such as “Memory.” You may not recall all of their hits songs though you definitely have heard them on TV and various hit movies.

The second song on the album, “Two Step”, is about Dave needing a break from his busy lifestyle and going to the woman he loves and she "drives me to distraction". She comes to him when he has "grown tired of water all the time" and she is the wine that will quench his thirst (Lyrics). He needs a change and she gives it to him making him realize that he should celebrate life more.

The Zac Brown Band is one of the most cavort country music bands of this generation. The band presents their music in a relatable fashion so their fans can have a few stagnant moments of self-awareness before returning to their usual fast-paced lives. The band accomplishes this by making their music comfortably fluent and sometimes emotional. In a review published by the New York Times entitled “Farmer’s Market Sounds, Comfortable as an Old Guitar,” the author, Jon Caramanica, presents the band’s latest album, “Uncaged,” by ripping the album into its basic elements to laud and denounced the imbalanced spectrum of their music.
Before the band’s formation, she had written songs for years, but she did not play guitar, possessing a love learning, but hatred for school, making her a strong contender to become a graduate of LA punk’s first generation. “I grew up in punk rock,” she proudly shares. Arriving in 1977, right before her sixteenth birthday, she immediately found the community she had longed for during her rebellious early teen years. She watched her roommate Belinda Carlisle play drums in The Germs with bassist Lorna Doone and eventually start the Go-Gos. She witnessed the Runaways’ first gig in the living room of the LA scenester Phast Phreddie. The house belonged to his parents at the time. She was friends with Joan Jett, Jane Weidlin, Pat Smear, and every punk around, so no one was going to tell her she couldn’t start a band. “Growing up in punk rock, there were a lot of women playing things,” she says. “It didn’t occur to me to not be in a band. By the time I started the Screaming Sirens, I had experience in every aspect of punk rock, from working the door, booking clubs, PR, and writing reviews of shows. While debating what to choose for the group music genre, it was quickly realized the whole group liked country music. It seems only fitting the class should choose such a genre, as it is popular here in Texas and country music is a big part of the culture of everyday life. The sub genres in this essay are Bluegrass, Nashville or “pop” Country, Texas Country, Outlaw, and Alternative Country. When discussing the favorite songs and artists of the group, it was realized that even though some may like different subgenres of country, such as bluegrass or outlaw, they all have the same special country sound that everyone knows, connects to, and loves.
Not wasting any time, I took it upon myself to find out more about this band. Found out they are based out in London. Which made sense. Then, I go back to Spotify and listen to their album, "Raw Bait," and I have to say I was very impressed to say the least. Their song 'Strange Days," is an absolute hit. They definitely gained a new fan after listening to their album in it's entirety.
Since the sixties the band had pushed their music to the limit, mixing pop, classical, and rock they had a ground breaking formula to success. Most fans know of only the hits that the band had in seventies, and of none of the controversy and pit falls the band suffered throughout their career.
In their second full-length album, Have Mercy showcases their successful sound but creates tracks that show the band is not afraid to expand and diversify their music. Switching labels from Topshelf Records to Hopeless Records for their sophomore compilation, the change in production has refined the group's sound. Following in the footsteps of their debut record, The Earth Pushed Back, their second album, A Place of Our Own, blends emotional lyricism and musicianship in a way that not many bands have been able to do well. Have Mercy definitely has a unique sound that sets them apart from most bands, but they can be compared to a few. While their first album put the alternative rock group onto the indie music map, A Place of Our Own keeps them on the road to success.
Emotional intensity, infectious melodies and passionate lyrics make for extremely compelling music; this album definitely had all three. The album’s melodic and lyrical magic that exuded from Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks left me mesmerized. When these sincere artists combined their vocal harmonies and surreal songwriting with their emotionally driven revelations of love, loss, heartbreak and turmoil, one of the ultimate classic albums emerged.

I chose this Rock group because it brings back memories of when my father always sang to their music apart from the Beatles. I remember the happy, beefy chords of “Start me up” weekend mornings in the house. I believe that this group did more to express rock and it’s core.
