The Suffering Servant of Isaiah
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 describes Christ Jesus and what He will accomplish for the glory of God to win the battle with Satan over the souls of His Children, whom He loves.
Verse 13 says, that He will “act wisely, “be raised, lifted up and highly exalted” (Isaiah, 52:13, NIV). Isaiah also speaks of his wisdom when he says, “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding…” (Isaiah 11:2, NIV). John 3:14-15 says, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” Philippians 2:9 tells us that Jesus was highly exalted by God, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name” (NIV).
In verse 14, Isaiah states, “many were appalled at him” and “his figure was so disfigured…”. This passage is speaking of Christ being flogged and mutilated, beaten beyond recognition, just as Matthew recalls, “Then he released Barabbas to them.
