Introduction
The American Auto Industry has been able to adapt to the fierce competition from foreign companies. One way it has done this is through technological advances that have improved the quality of their product while making it environmentally friendly. Despite these changes, it still struggles to retain a strong foothold in customer satisfaction among its consumers.

Competition
Since the time of Henry Ford in the early 1900’s, the auto industry in the United States enjoyed almost complete supremacy, with little foreign competition. Nonetheless, as time went by, foreign competition kept gaining more and more strength. This company is responsible for designing and producing the first sports car running completely on electricity. Let’s take their “Model S” for instance. This car can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just under 3 seconds. What makes this possible is their unique all-wheel drive dual motor which according to their website, provides “unparalleled traction control in all conditions” and “improved range and faster acceleration”. (Tesla Motors, 2015). Aside from this, the S Model comes equipped with an autopilot feature that not only can drive your car, but can also look for a parking space and park it as well. When scoring automobiles and light automobiles, The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) places Buick in seventh place in customer satisfaction for 2013, whereas foreign companies such as Mercedez-Benz, Subaru, Volkswagen, and Toyota take the top six spots . The situation only improved slightly the year after with Buick tying at fifth along with Honda and Toyota.

Conclusion
The foreign competition that the American auto industry faced had positive effects for the industry itself. It prompted a quick assimilation that enabled it to be more innovative, increase their productivity performance, and improve the quality of their product.
