Million Dollar Baby, Clint Eastwood’s latest movie as a director has been getting more and more positive reviews recently and it is even better than Mystic River. At first glance, the film looks like another boxing-movie cliché. However, Eastwood has succeeded in creating a compelling and moving story about the intricate world of human relationships, the price of success and the realization of dreams. The movie explores many different subject matters. Million Dollar Baby is about friendship and respect. It is about love and it is about dreams.
The main theme of the movie is the boxing career of Maggie Fitzgerald (played by Hilary Swank) - a 30-year old waitress who lives alone and barely gets by. However, she is strongly determined to become a professional boxer and this is why she seeks the help of Frankie Dunn (played by Clint Eastwood), a boxing trainer and an owner of a gym. Initially, Frankie is unwilling to train her because she is female and too old to have any chance of achieving significant accomplishments in professional boxing. However, Frankie’s friend and associate Eddie Dupris (played by Morgan Freeman), really believes in Maggie and lets her train in a corner of the gym. As time passes, Maggie’s persistence and Eddie’s pushiness finally change Frankie’s mind. This is when the true story begins. Maggie’s determination and strong will to fulfill her dream, combined with Frankie’s excellent training skills launch both of them into the professional boxing orbit where they gloriously win battle after battle.

...she is happy. In general, all the actors in the movie make the audience feel what they are feeling and this is essential for the movie as the plot is deeply emotionally charged.
As reviewer Sean O’Connell notes in his column at Filmcritic.com, Million Dollar Baby was expected to be “a half-baked, rushed-into-awards-season castoff by a respected filmmaker still basking in the glow of his last well-received piece”. Fortuitously, the movie has turned out to be one of the best motion pictures of the year. Once again Clint Eastwood surprises us all with his work as a film director. He gives the audience a chance to consider life from another viewpoint. The movie makes one think about what he or she has achieved in life and Maggie shows us that it is never too late to have a dream fulfilled. After all, this is why we are actually born and live: to fulfill our dreams.
CC 1- The perception of the movie is the parents now need to better focus on the family and create an open flow of communication between the two of them. While the parents learn how to communicate with their spouse and how to raise another child, they will face changes to the prior family structure.
For the fighting scenes, the stylistic features parallel LaMotta’s own life at the time of the fight, and thus serves to emphasize particular qualities of it. For example, 31 minutes into the film is the 1943 fight against Sugar Ray Robinson, at this point, LaMotta’s life is at its greatest point, in the previous scene, LaMotta has successfully courted his second wife Vikki. The stylistic features of this scene emphasizes LaMotta’s boxing skill and control over the ring, the mastery of the sport he displays paralleling the quality of life that LaMotta has been able to achieve for himself at that moment. The movie teaches us to look beyond the cover and into who someone is as a person. We also learn that sometimes contact with people makes us reconsider our judgement towards them, to find out the real person underneath.

Fight Club is not about winning or losing. Paul Palahniuk’s Fight Club is about the issues of masculinity in our modern capitalist society. It is a novel about men who resist conforming to what society defines as masculine. In our present day culture, men are presented with the ideal form of masculinity that they are expected to achieve such as being successful in the work place, going to the gym, and grooming yourself to look attractive. The unnamed narrator of the story undergoes an identity crisis, which is a result of capitalism; he struggles to find himself by going through various support groups before finally attending Fight Club. The consumer driven society has replaced the traditional values of masculinity, which creates conflicts and becomes the catalyst for Fight club: a place to re-masculinize through physical combat.
As the audience watches the film they can come to realize that sometimes people need to open their eyes to new ideas. They become aware that one person can make a difference in another person’s life. This film is about that, changing your life. Billy Elliot would not have ever thought to become a dancer, yet is willing to take the risk and he discovers that he loves it. The audience can connect to the main character because they understand that sometimes risks have to be taken. Mrs. Wilkinson shows that it is okay to change and do something different.
Nightcrawler showed an insight about a man named Lou Bloom and his job about being a tabloid paparazzi journalist. Before filming about urban crimes, Lou was a thief and lived his life that way. One day, he stole a bike in exchange for a film camera. From there, it marked the journey of Lou as a cameraman who films gruesome crimes. This sick and terrible job symbolizes the sickness of our society. When the word success is used, one of the factors that most people will think of is money. Money is what motivates most people and what they wish to strive to earn more. In the movie, the more repellent crime scenes that Lou films, the more money he earns. As a result, it was unstoppable for him to film such scenes. Little did he know, the job was he doing was abominably affecting people and possibly killing them.
John Singleton’s view of social problems in South Central Los Angeles happens in a tale of three friends growing up together. Doughboy and Ricky Baker are half-brothers and have opposite personalities. Ricky is a football player who hopes to win a scholarship and spends most of his time playing football. On the other hand, Doughboy is a young man who looks upon his environment for guidance. He is involved in violence, abusing drugs, and participates in violence. In between is their friend Tre, who actually has a father to teach him what is right from wrong. Furious Styles, who is Tre’s father in the film does everything in his strength to keep his son from becoming another startling statistic. As you can see, it is always important for parents to be a part of their child’s life because it can make a big difference not only in their life but also their child’s future.
Gracie’s choice tells the the story of a young teen who had to fight for the custody of her four younger siblings. Gracie faces a legal system that ignores the obvious evidence that she is capable of raising her younger siblings but because of her age the system automatically tells her no. From the moment I watched this movie on Lifetime it inspired my life tremendously. This movie doesn’t relate to me but it relates to people who have an importance in my life. Gracie’s Choice displays struggle, independence, and determination. It is a prime example as to what it means to growing up before your time.
