Success is a term that’s definition varies greatly from person to person. The best way to put it, is that success is happiness and achieving the goals you set for yourself. Society chooses to view success as how much money one possesses, if one is married with kids, and how one chooses to live their life. In all reality, success is completely in your mind. Only you can decide if you are successful in life or not. Nothing anyone says can change whether you are a success or not. Just because my standard of success is riches and glory means absolutely nothing. Someone else may be happy passed out in a crack house addicted to heroin. Who are we to tell that person if they are successful or not? We do not set the goals or standards of happiness …show more content…
You cannot be truly successful without being happy with the way your own life is going. As long as you are happy and have reached the goals you set for yourself, then at the end of the day you are a success. The image I chose displays this in a question. The word “Success” is in the man’s left hand and the word “Happiness” is in his right. Also, there is a massive question mark connected to his head. The real question here is does happiness and success go hand in hand, or are they not related at all? In society’s eyes, they are completely unrelated. As long as you live in a mansion, you are a success. Even if you are sitting in that mansion every night crying yourself to sleep because of how miserable you are. The mansion will have you viewed from your peers as a success, but it is your happiness that truly defines your …show more content…
Success is not possibly achieved until you have become the person you have always wanted to be. Reaching your potential and fulfilling the dreams you have had makes you a successful individual. For example, I could be the richest man on Earth. If my main goal in life was to get married and I grow old alone then I would feel like a failure, even if I grow old in a million-dollar mansion. Goals are how success is measured on a real scale. A goal for a doctor could be saving someone’s life. A goal for a soldier could be ending someone’s life. Regardless of the result, as long as you achieved the goal you originally set out to accomplish then you were successful in your task. Being successful in your life tasks makes you a successful person. If you strive to make an A on your paper, and you actually do make an A, then you were successful in achieving your goal. Therefore, proving to yourself and anyone else who knew the goal you were striving for, that you are a
´´ If one advances confident in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ’’ These words were spoken by Henry David Thoreau.Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of one´s life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and achieve all of their dreams. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. It does not matter how related they are to each other in certain áreas they always have a different point of view of what success really is. For some success is measured by social status and wealth
According to Danika Senzer success is “....being confident and loving what you are doing . As long as you are proud of what you have, I would call that success. It will always be different from person to person, but that is okay.”(Senzer 34). This quote is expressing what Senzer really thinks success is. Maddi Dukes states that , “I think that true success is knowing that you succeeded a goal you set for yourself. I think this is the definition of success because when you set a goal for yourself, and you have worked so hard to complete it,it feels like complete success.” (Dukes
One has achieved success who has lived well and laughed often. '; This quote seems to sum up what is meant by success. If you are able to laugh often and much then you have definitely achieved happiness. The idea of living well, though, is a very broad statement. In order, then, to define success in relation to this statement, we must first define what it means to live well. There are three levels of success, in my opinion: societal success, academic or professional success. If someone can achieve all of these three levels of success, they are someone who has lived well.
Success can be an extremely broad subject. There is an abounding amount of different views on what the “true” definition of success is. Personally, I believe that success is finding happiness. Success is waking up in the morning and not having to worry about whether or not the bills are going to be paid this month. Success is having a job that you enjoy going to every day. Success is having friends and family who love and support you. Success does not mean that one has to be exceedingly rich or have a lakeside mansion. As long as they are happy, they have succeeded in life.
To most of us, they say they can spot success at first glance. Generally by the car one drives or how one is dressed. Some might see it by how healthy or how happy one feels. Merriam Webster's Dictionary states that success is “the fact of getting wealth, respect, or fame.” If one where to adopt this definition of success, one might go on to living a life of materialism. This mindset is deceitful and will only reward you with short term happiness, like a drug addict searching for a quick fix. For one to be ultimately successful, one must be able to overcome hardships and possess qualities like integrity, pride and patience which no amount of money in the world could buy. These qualities will make anyone strive in most, if not all the difficult obstacles one must face in life.
As I continue to grow and mature into a young adult, I have begun to realize that the word “Success” can have many different meanings. Depending on the person you’re discussing it with, they may see it differently than you do. The media and society have convinced us into accepting a misleading meaning of how success should be defined. Many people who are rich and seen as successful are often very stressed out and struggling with everyday life. Although, this is something that society often decides to look past because the rich are perceived to be very content and joyful with the way they are living their lives, almost as if they have nothing to worry about because of their success. When talking about success, people need to take into the account that the definition can have a variety of meanings, not only is success displayed from finances, but somebody could be considered successful for other things they do as well.
According to the Merriam- Webster’s Dictionary, success is defined as, someone or something that is successful: a person or thing that succeeds. Success could also be defined as, the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. It determines if you are satisfied with certain aspects of your life, for example, your appearance, your personality, your abilities and your relationship with others. Usually, people are very judgmental with themselves comparing themselves with others and making decisions about themselves based on the comparisons that they made. Most people feel bad about themselves from time to time. To become successful, you have to possess some factors that makes you stand out.
Success is hard to pin down. It may be getting an A on a test or finding a high paying job or creating your most influential piece of writing or even just being able to be yourself. Success is different to everyone. Success follows no arbitrary rules of definition or singularity, success is just what is important to you and what what makes you happy. Success controls people’s lives. It is the single most driving force in all of history, the will to be successful. Without our preconceived notions of success and what it means to be successful, no one would follow rules, everyone would follow their own.
