College is set on a higher difficulty compared to high school in the sense of its requirements. College requires more time to learning the material to pass the tough exams that come along with a class. In addition, the teaching environment that goes along with this changes drastically from having a class of thirty to over three hundred. This allows you meet a range of people and have a diverse group of friends throughout your college experience. During my time in college so far, I have learned that the way I got through high school will no longer apply here. I needed to evolve my studying habits, test preparations, use of resources and time management to survive the new environment that surrounded me. Compared to high school my note taking habits have not drastically changed. From my high school, I found that Cornell formatted notes fit my style of learning the best; I am both a visual and audio learner. However, the small changes that did occur were the use of highlighters. This has been a significant help due to finding crucial information such as topics that will be in an exam or a quiz. I have also adopted to my style note taking to go into the book and highlight …show more content…
Procrastination was something that controlled me, although now this is no longer a problem. It would a lie to say I no longer procrastinate, but it has become an issue that rarely happens. Even though it does happen time to time, it does not get in the way of my studies or completing assignments. I now have a planner to plan my days and keep track of time that is being wasted that can be used for something else. This has greatly helped due to finding small amounts of time that add up. I am now able to finish my work earlier, thus, giving me more time to myself and studying. By planning my days out, I can adjust for unexpected situations to happen that might have ruined my plans before, but not
Out of the three attempts to squash my tendency to procrastinate, only one seemed to work. The first thing I tried that worked, was to set a timer for 10 minutes, and just work for those 10 minutes. Next, I would give myself a 10 minute break. This was an idea suggested by my professor at the beginning of the year. This worked at first; I would get into my writing mojo, and not stop for an hour or so.
After my first few months of college, I realized I enjoy being a college student much more than I enjoyed being a high school student. However, the transition between the two extremely diverse worlds, was challenging at first, I found out how to overcome it. Originally, I couldn’t realize how different the two were, but as time went on, I was about to notice the differences. Not everyone is able to be aware of the many similarities and difference. Some differences include: cost, amount of freedom, and reasons why people are there. On the other hand, both high school and college have similar class structure and both require time management. The better prepared a student is to challenged with these many similarities and differences, the more
When any adolescent enters High School they are still young and on the search to find themselves. High Schooler’s often make bad decisions, but quickly see that these mistakes there to be learning experiences rather than to dwell on them. Often, for many students, High School does not present an extreme amount of stress, rather it is a a place to learn more about yourself. Once college hits, stress is the only thing on the mind. College students are always worrying about if they did their homework, if they have a big test coming up, if they studied enough, and if they even have enough money to pay their bills. So the key to college is to know that the fundamentals of college are different than high school, be responsible and reliable to yourself, do all your homework, and most importantly be respectful to your peers and teachers
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
High school instruction are not directly continued in college. It may help for the first year because those courses are the basics of the subject. College professor are specialist in their field, while high school teachers have general information that runs on a curriculum. College professor have an academic freedom and can teach whatever they desire. Students should understand that the first year schedule has a lot of variety with the classes being very broad of their subjects. The last basic adaption is that in college, students must learn how to self-motivate and self-disciple. No one is going to watch over their shoulders and be on top of them to do their work. Time management skills needs to be developed and only the student and create their
In college if you don 't put studying and homework as a number one priority than you will struggle. Another thing about homework is that in high school your teachers wouldn 't mind taking late assignments, but in college if you don 't turn in your work on time points will get deducted or it won 't even be accepted. In college you are told to study at least two hours for each class every day, which is way more than in high school. Nevertheless, I believe it to be necessary because my classes are so much tougher than in high school. Another thing that can be said about the seriousness level is the behavior of students in College versus in high school. In my experience, in my high school classes students tended to be way more talkative and disruptive compared to the college classes I am taking right now. I believe this is because students in College all have invested a good amount of money into their education, which leads to them taking it more seriously than high
"Tomorrow is the first day of what I will become." I wrote this in my diary the night before my first day of college. I was anxious as I imagined the stereotypical college room: intellectual students, in-depth discussions about neat stuff, and of course, a casual professor sporting the tweed jacket with leather elbows. I was also ill as I foresaw myself drowning in a murky pool of reading assignments and finals, hearing a deep, depressing voice ask "What can you do with your life?" Since then, I've settled comfortably into the college "scene" and have treated myself to the myth that I'll hear my calling someday, and that my future will introduce itself to me with a hardy handshake. I can't completely rid my conscience from reality, however. My university education and college experience has become a sort of fitful, and sleepless night, in which I have wonderful dreams and ideas, but when I awaken to apply these aspirations, reality sounds as a six thirty alarm and my dreams are forgotten.
Students who make the transition from high school into college have difficulty adjusting because many are not used to being on their own nor their new environment. Entering college, you come to understand that it is not the same as high school. There are crucial differences like the level of academic responsibilities, time management and scheduling, as well as the method of learning. College and high school are different in many ways but they both ultimately share the same goal in teaching students to learn.
Procrastination can be a major problem in both your career and your personal life because procrastination is the thief of time. When you keep putting off things, they keep piling up and getting in your way of achieving other things. Then you have missed opportunities, frenzied work hours, feel stressed, guilt and resentment; you find you are being overwhelmed easily because there is just so much to do.
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
The biggest difference between high school and college is the amount of responsibilities and independence. The biggest difference between high school and college is the amount of responsibilities and independence that I have. I am responsible for registering for the classes, I need to take, meeting with a counselor, paying for me fees, and ordering my parking permit. College is a lot of pressure because it can really determine my future. If you do not succeed in college then it’s my fault, my money and time that is wasted.
A college education opens the door to gain knowledge that high school does not give you. In college students obtain the knowledge of how to become more independent. For example, the students learn to choose their own class schedule, extracurricular activities, and how to organize your time.
