Students who work may show signs of stress more significantly than others. With time management, a student can demonstrate that they are more dedicated to school and achieving their life goals. Stress levels for students seemed to be substantially lower than others for students that have fortunate parents that provide payment for college tuition and are not forced to work. Those same students seem to be less dedicated to their work and time on campus (Whitman et al., 1984). Students who have better time management skills do not show cases of anxiety and/or low self-esteem, but students who cannot properly manage their time are more likely to suffer with these flaws of the human condition (Hudd et al., 2000). Leisure activities are another way to help a college …show more content…
The Daily Stress Inventory scale was used to access the stress levels in the participants ( Brantley, Waggoner, Jones, & Rappaport, 1985). In this inventory, the following participants were asked to complete daily assessments that would promptly bring upon a stressor. Once the stressor was indicated each participant needed to document their stress on scale from one to seven ( Brantley et al., 1985). During this study, student where given a questioner that asked about there majors, coarse load, and even where they had been working for that semester. In became very certain that students who had some form of employment did not get as much leisure time as other fellow students, and leisure time confirms less stress on a student. Also, students who worked did not receive necessary correct amounts of sleep in order to maintain a stable level of stress. Students who acquired a lower pay wage showed indefinite signs of higher stress levels. The students who worked and payed for their own financial load in college, seemed to have a higher grade-point average than the ones who did not ( Brantely et al.,
Author Melissa Campbell stated, “All jobs, regardless of what they are, involve some level of stress”. Some may say that the stress a student endures throughout college, can prepare them for what the future holds, but in actuality stress is stress. No matter what form can take a tole on a student. Students will be stressed for many years to come in their future. Whether it be their first job interview, marriage, or welcoming a new member to the family. The possible four years at college need to be as stress free as possible. Their needs to be some types of fun involved even though they are students first. Lastly, “Jobs produce stress not just in terms of the actual work itself but also in terms of dealing with your co-workers”(Cooper). College is suppose to be about meeting new people, forming a social life. There could be enough possible stress with roommates or professors, there is no need for stress from co-workers or management making the college experience less

Studies have shown that many college students are not able to handle the stress while in school, which hinders the ability for the brain to act in a normal way (Shahrokh and Hales, 2003). If a person is unable to deal with the stress that one is being faced with, it will have negative consequences in terms of causing several psychological disorders (Canby et al., 2014). Entering post-secondary education is a completely new environment for students, as it can be tough for many to adjust to the new surroundings. There are many factors that cause stress when students enter college, as it can include having the ability to deal with lower marks (Struthers et al., 2000) and having to create a new social life. Once and if a social life is established, it can cause more stress among students because it can lead into peer pressure that results in risky behavior. In particular, peer pressure can cause alcoholism or drug abuse (Seiffge-Krenke, 1990) or it can also cause unprotected sex. Not only does stress revolve around peer-pressure, but it can also be caused by headaches and lack of energy. If a student is constantly staying up late to finish assignments or to study, it can cause headaches from the lack of sleep; thus causing stress. With all the given factors, it can be hard to overcome these external factors which can ultimately lead to stress among

Stress has been shown to have negative effects on college students and their learning. Academic burnout is a substantial problem associated with academic performance and is brought on by stress. A study explained by Shu-Hui Lin and Yun-Chen Huang (2014) is based on two scales, the “Undergraduate Life Stress Scale” and “Learning Burnout Scale” that were used as research tools to explore the life stress among college students and whether or not the results can be used as predictors of academic burnout. This study is intended to specifically identify life stresses associated with academic burnout and to
The heavy workload in college is very different than from that in high school. Some college students tend to have difficulties handling so much school work at a time. Binge drinking becomes a habit for them and becomes their way of getting rid of the problem. Harvard researchers have found that even some binge drinkers are seven times as likely to miss classes and eight times as likely to have their grades fall during the semester. (David L. Marcus, 1999) Individuals encounter various situations that create feelings of stress in their lives. Most of the tension may come from school, work, and family. Many university students experience pressure from taking college exams, writing research papers, and from their places of employment. Stress is expected to occur in the lives of college students, but how they cope with their stress is the issue and that is how binge drinking comes into

In today’s society it is important to receive a college education to join the workforce. However, the transition from high school to college can be a very intimidating experience for many students. To make the college transition less frightening, students can take several precautions while still in high school. These precautions include participating in extracurricular activities, taking challenging courses, as well as developing good time management skills. Participation in extracurricular activities is important in succeeding in a college environment because it helps students to explore their interests and talents. Challenging courses also benefit students because they help to prepare students academically for the demanding workload found in college. Time management is yet another important skill to have because it will help students to manage their time between academics and socialization
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.
My professional development topic was time management. Ironically, I missed the first professional development assignment. Due to poor time management skills, I did not get the assignment turned in before midnight when it was due. The last 2 semesters at Ivy Tech, spring and summer 2016, I have had poor time management skills. Procrastination is a thing I have always struggled with, and something I want to work on.
As more and more people are getting into a hectic lifestyle, a need to have a good time management techniques that built-in part of your life, you have to follow some simple requirements. You no longer have the luxury to waste valuable time in your day.
