Students should not be homeschooled because it affects the child’s socials skills, having lower social skills, and parents as teachers. Over 2 million children are homeschooled today. Homeschooling is when parents teach their children curriculum at home instead of sending them out to a public or private school. Most parents today homeschool because of they are concerned for the environment of schools, but some parents don’t realizes that keeping your child at home could hinder them even more than putting the child in a private or public school.
Children who are being homeschooled usually have less social skills then children who are in public school. Brain D. Ray who has a PhD in education explains “Critics of home education say that homeschooled

This is not at all true, just because you went to the doctor does not mean you know how to preform brain surgery. Many parents that are teaching their children today only have a high school diploma if that. According to the Texas homeschool coalition association, the state of Texas does not require a high school diploma to homeschool your child (THCA). Homeschooling your child can be stressful you have to be able to know enough about the subject you are teaching to answer questions that your student/child might ask you. Another thing that might happen while the parent is homeschooling they might be working as well. This can cause the feeling of being overwhelmed and also exhausted. For example, the parent/teacher might have a at home daycare where the young adult/student might be helping and not focusing on their studies, as well as the parent/teacher might not be focusing on their child/student curriculum. Rebecca Hubbard states that “Many parents get burnt out at some point because they do not have time for themselves” (Hubbard). This is very true you have to be with your children non-stop 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You have to make sacrifices to homeschool your child. Another thing you are going to have to sacrifice is your money. Steven W. Lee which has a degree in child psychology states that if a Two-parent families rely on a two-person income; however, because one parent must be at least part of a day to educate your child the family might suffer a loss of income. (Lee). Another thing a person must consider is that children usually follow in their parents footsteps, if the parent or parents does not finish high school or doesn’t go to college the child will believe that is okay and they do not need to finish high school or go to college because their parents didn’t do it so why should they. Homeschooling your child comes with many sacrifices
One main doubt that many people believe is that home schooling makes a negative approach to one’s child social skills. This is based on the supposition that children who are home schooled are trapped at home all the time. People who still suppose that children are home 365 days a year are mistaken, because home school children have several opportunities to interact with other kids their own age. According to Dr. Brian D. Ray, his studies substantiate that, homeschooled students are engaged in outside activities. They are frequently caught up in activities such as field trips, sports, etc. Homeschooled children do not only hang out with people their own age, but they learn how to socialize with people of all ages. This is a great benefit because they learn to communicate and become amiable (Ray 1).
Homeschooling is becoming a huge trend across America. It does have its downsides to it, just like any other education. Many parents have to worry about the right way of letting their child have socialization. Without proper socialization, a child can lack proper social skills. Many parents fear the temptations public school can provide, so they homeschool their children to bring them up with holy and moral attitudes. No parent wants their child to hang around other children who abuse drugs, alcohol, or can misguide their children down a wrong path. With homeschooling, parents can monitor whom their children socialize with and for how long. Fearing to not have any socialization at all is where parents can go wrong.
Parents withdraw children from school for concerns that are not being managed to their satisfaction. Bullying manifest, basic skills being reinforced poorly, and no one on one interaction, consequently, dissatisfaction within the public school system exists. Under those circumstances, homeschooling in some cases is necessary. Children who are homeschooled apprehend various social settings, maintain the offbeat school scheduling, and acquire knowledge from diverse sources other than teachers, while still maintaining a sturdy set of skills.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.” Why send your children to a school, when they can receive an even better education from the comfort and safety of home? Although many people believe that it is bad for children 's education, homeschooling is actually a better and safer alternative to public and private schools.
Homeschooling is often portrayed as an overprotective mom - unwilling to let her kids leave her for a day at school, and a large number of children, all unable to hold a conversation, let alone function normally in society. As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten through eighth grade, I can attest that my homeschool experience was the exact opposite of this confining stereotype.
Parents should do their research to make sure they are able and prepared to homeschool their children. Each state has their own requirements for homeschooling and most families pays for the studies themselves. In certain areas, enrollment in a state based program is optional. If that is the case, then the state pays for specific resources in exchange for the homeschool meeting certain requirements to remain in the program. If the child is already in public or private school and the parent decides to homeschool. The parent would need to write a letter of withdrawal that has to be given to the school principal or the local
In addition, people who argue against homeschool claims that homeschooling requires an incredible amount of time and energy. Bell says, "Even though the actual time devoted to homeschooling your kids is far less than the time they would spend in school each day, you still have lots of things to do to prepare for that instructional time" (1997, p. 30,cited in Margaret,p.11-12). Likewise, if you are homeschooling more than one child, the preparation time is doubled or increased. In addition, every year there is a new course to plan for it. Hence, homeschooling might be emotionally and physically
Thesis Statement: Homeschooled students often achieve higher academic success and are more active in their communities than traditionally schooled students, due to a personalized approach to learning that emphasizes individuality.
Today, many parents are homeschooling their children. A U.S. Department of Education’s report shows that approximately 1.5 million children were being homeschooled in 2007 (Lips & Feinberg, 2008). This is almost 3 percent of all school age children (Lips & Feinberg, 2008). A private researcher, the National Home Education Research Institute, estimates 2.5 million children were being homeschooled in the 2007 – 2008 academic years (Lips & Feinberg, 2008). By either count, homeschooling is growing exponentially.
Homeschooled children’s personal education doesn’t get overlooked. According to “homeschooling vs. public schooling: making the right choice” in the Huffington Post, Marion Lewis states, that public schools focus on teaching the average student; which means any student above or below average doesn’t get what he/she needs. With so many students it’s no wonder many students are getting overlooked. Marion states that class sizes are too big, with class ratios being anywhere from one teacher with twenty students to a whopping thirty students to one teacher. Homeschooling helps fix this problem by having individualized education for each student. With homeschooling, the parent has the opportunity to pick out of the many curriculum options the right one to teach their child the way best suited for them. Marion also mentions how one on one teaching helps the parent (in this case the teacher) find and target the students weaknesses to help focus on fixing those weaknesses.
One might ask why some parents decide to home school their children rather than send them to public school to receive a traditional public education. In his article, “What Have We Learned About Homeschooling,” Eric Isenberg offers data which says, “Families choose to homeschool their children for both academic and religious reasons” (407). Even so, most people claim that public school offers the perfect environment for learning and developing. They argue
ABSTRACT: Homeschooling is a controversial topic among educators. The issues that follow a child throughout their educational and social lives, are elevated when a child has been home schooled. There is no social environment for the child to learn to develop basic social skills; most home schooling environments are made up of a child, perhaps accompanied by a sibling, and the parent teaching the information given. There is no room for a developed personality that is consistent with a child of equal age and grade in a normal schooling environment.
As the population in public schools increase, the problems in these schools are also on the rise. These changes are leasing to the way parents are schooling their children. Many parents are leaning towards homeschooling as a solution to this problem. This increase in homeschooling can be directly related to an increase in school violence, the offering of a lack luster curriculum, and lack of student teacher interaction.
Perhaps the most significant impact of home schooling is the actual learning. There are many academic advantages. In a home schooling situation, there is no doubt a more individualized program of study than any traditional school can offer. Whatever a child's pace or level of ability is, it can be met directly. A parent or tutor can focus exactly on what the child needs extra help or improvement in, as well as what the child excels at.(Ray, 2014) In a public school, teachers must teach to "the middle" and have little time to cater to an individual student's needs on a regular basis.
Criticism of homeschooling is vast and there are several different aspects as to why it could be detrimental to the development of a child. One such argument is that experiences of diversity are lost when students are taught in the home. They have lost the opportunity to work with peers of varying culture and social statuses in an academic environment. Such experiences are essential preparation for social and professional life outside the home. Without this training at an early age they may be at a disadvantage when forced to go out into the work force. Another reason why some people disapprove of homeschooling is that since the parents can design what is taught their children only are exposed to the parents’ views. This results in the children having limits on their ability to form their own views and ultimately forming their own unique personality and values. Also to be considered is lack of work ethic built through a structured school setting. The discipline that is learned will be used later on to maintain a steady job and allows them to become accustomed to the rigidity of professional industry. Also in the classroom children ...
