In the constitution we the people are guaranteed certain rights. Those rights include life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These are guaranteed to the people as long as we follow the laws of the land. There are twenty-seven amendments to the United States constitution. The most important one in my opinion, is the first one. It states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (Constitutional Topic: Student Rights - The U.S. Constitution Online - USConstitution.net). Although these rights apply to everyone, they seem to lack in public schools. Some questions regarding this topic are why don’t these rights apply to students, is the reasons for limited rights to secure the rights for students to learn in a safe environment. I intend to prove that some students’ rights are being violated and suppressed my administration in public schools. There are exactly ten rights that are guaranteed to us, the people. Yet I believe that freedom of speech is one of the most important rights guaranteed to us. It allows us to say things about the government that we disapprove of and it should be allowed in schools. I understand the administration has to be able to create a safe learning environment for students, but what if the obscenities are not disrupting class, like in the hallways, or at lunch. These are places where students are allowed to vent and speak in way that allows them to relax for the time that they have.
