Out of Africa focuses on the life of the narrator and main character, Karen Blixen who faces many problems shortly after her arrival in Africa. She has arranged a marriage of convenience with Baron Bror Von Blixen, her second cousin. Karen immediately struggles with keeping her marriage with him, as things turns out unexpected. Bror’s announcement of the coffee plantation angers Karen. It later on turns out that Bror is also incapable of managing the farm, being completely unreliable with money. His infidelity and very little presence towards Karen, as well as his financial irresponsibility cause their marriage to be damaged.

The film shows the struggles the main character has to deal with in her marriage. The wedding appears to be the main bridge that connects Karen and Bror together. This connection is however damaged when Bror’s intentions are revealed; his decision on establishing a coffee plantation instead of the dairy farm Karen wants, and his poor financial responsibilities will later on cause difficulties for the plantation, to which Karen ends up managing it alone.
