Commitment is defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. What about when it comes to marriage? How many couples can you remember recently that have stayed loyal, monogamous, and committed to each other through the good times and the bad? More importantly, who was the last person to write a decent, honest song about the struggles and benefits of being in a loving marriage years into the relationship? Today’s music scene (especially hip-hop and rap), have butchered the ideals of real relationships and commitment for our younger generations. Most musicians that are men now-a-days have more commitment to their record labels, their “boys”, and their reputations, than they do to their girlfriends and wives. A song that absolutely degrades women in certain areas is by the band 3 OH! 3 entitled, Don’t trust me. There …show more content…
Fortunately, there are quite a few women in the music industry that are proving that notion incorrect. Take Destiny Child’s song, “Independent” for example. The lyrics read, “Question: Tell me how you feel about this, try to control me boy you get dismissed, pay my own fun, oh and I pay my own bills. Always 50/50 in relationships.” I remember this song coming out and never having heard one like it before. Girls finally had a group of women to look up to and idolize; a group of women who made their own rules, made their own money, and held themselves at a higher standard than most men would hold them to. This type of positive reinforcement for women to be independent, work hard for what they have, and embrace their self-respect, opened doors to a new way of viewing women in

The case Loving v. Virginia arose in the 1960s when Mildred Loving and Richard Loving legally got married in Washington D.C. When going back to their home state, they were arrested under Virginia’s anti-miscegenation laws, a law that prohibited interracial marriage. The Lovings argued that their 14th Amendment was violated when they were arrested. Upon 1967 the Supreme Court had a unanimous decision in favor of the Lovings. The Supreme Court declared anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional and an

Bradstreet’s poetry reflect Puritan thinking? Marriages in Puritan society were based on the biblical scripture; ‘wives submit to your husbands’ , with the sincere belief that women were to subject to the husbands and support their needs before their own. ‘My Dear and Loving Husband’ captures Bradstreet’s relationship with her husband as it is plain and simple. Typical of a Puritan marriage, Bradstreet submits to her husband and shows her duty in loving him. ‘If ever man were loved by wife’ then wife

Arranged Marriage In Midnights Children “Arranged Marriages in Midnight’s Children” An element of Midnight’s Children, by Salman Rushdie that I particularly enjoyed was the recurring theme of loving someone in pieces. There are two instances where this is prevalent, one being the interaction between Aadam Aziz and Naseem Ghani. It is stated that: “In short: my grandfather had fallen in love, and had come to think of the perforated sheet as something sacred and magical, because through it

In the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1594-1599) by William Shakespeare, he uses love and marriage as a tool to show the defiance in children standing up against their parents, he does this by making the characters go against their parents wishes and show that they have rights and are not controlled by their parents and the struggle of forbidden love. During A Midsummer Night’s Dream Shakespeare proves how irrational unrequited and whimsical love can be, not only does a flower change who marries

However, it is estimated that nearly half of those marriages will result in divorce (Centers for Disease Control, 2011). Conversely, this means that nearly half of marriages do make it and a good portion of those relationships
