Art may look inseparable from human nature. In fact, we are the only specie to feel the need to express ourselves with more that common language. First traces of painting and sculptures appeared in the middle of Paleolithic and it is still a hot topic today. However, alongside the constant evolution of society, a brand-new type of art, still quite unknown, impresses more people all around the world; it is called street art and consists in leaving our mark in and on the street. This phenomenon should be considered as the 10th art because of its unique aspect, the better perception we have about it, the rise of its popularity and for its advantages nearby us and our environment. Humans use art to study and understand their environment. Reproducing it allows them to study the effect of light on a same surface, the variation of colour of an object of the depth effect. Lascaux’s cave painting, that are considered as the first trace of art in human history (and street art as well), was a way for men to manipulate and give meaning to their environment according to historian and scientists. As a result, art is for us an excellent way to develop our knowledge of the world. Street art adds beauty to urban environment too. As stated by Bojan Maric, a cultural studies teacher at the University of Belgrade, it is an inevitable element of contemporary art. Painters can transform plain walls, unoccupied space or abandoned buildings into colorful murals, outstanding sculptures and curious museums. For instance, north-American trains sometime carry Other’s masterpiece, a Canadian traveller and urban painter who leaves its mark on the wagons he takes for his trips. Finally, art develops skills such as creativity, communication and socialization. It gives people news ways to express themselves and share values and opinions trough the use of other methods. They need to find how to translate words and emotions into colours and textures, giving at the same time a deeper meaning to their work. As a matter of fact, art is a technique used by always more therapists among traumatized people to help them to communicate their difficulties. On another side, psychologists agree that using our creativity is what makes us human by increasing our abilities of solving complex problems and being perseverant. All those benefits are an excellent reason to encourage street
Rathnasambhava, the Transcendent Buddha of the South and Madonna Enthroned are very similar images that were produced by very different cultures. Both images were produced during the 13th Century. The image of Rathnasambhava, the Transcendent Buddha of the South was produced in Tibet during an interesting period of the country’s religious history. The branch of Tibetan Buddhism is led by a religious and sometimes political leader called the Dalai Lama. It was during the 13th Century during the reign of Kublai Khan, around the time of the production of this painting, that Tibet experienced the first incarnation of the Dalai Lama. One has to wonder if this painting is somehow related to that occurrence. According to one source, the reincarnation system for the Living Buddhas is the main point distinguishing Tibetan Buddhism from other forms of Buddhism.
Art can mean many different things to many different people and was one of the earliest ways in which man has expressed him or herself to others, whether it was through cave drawings or hieroglyphics. It does not begin or end with just drawing or painting, items typically considered art, or the many other recognized facets of art including architecture, drama, literature, sculpting, and music. My research is based on Vincent van Gogh art, and two art paintings that I choose to study is The Starry Night, 1889, and the second art is The Sower 1888. Vincent van Gogh’s is known for Impressionism, that occurs to us in these times, much more to affirm close links with tradition, and to represent
Among many street artist there is one name that rises above them all: Banksy. Banksy is a street artist, that although most of his true identity remains unknown, he is believed to have come from Bristol, England and to be born around 1974. He rose to fame for his challenging stenciled pieces in the late 1990s. Banksy is the topic of a 2010 documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop, which inspects the connection between commercial and street art.
In the performance of life, one cultural representation that captivates and entrances people more fluently and describes the human experience more eloquently is that of artistic expression. It imposes itself unto the face of society through the individual who creates it as a reflection of any one or combination of personal, emotional, or physiological effects society or one’s own environment has inflicted onto them to compel them convey their feelings to the public. The essential argument, is whether graffiti has a place in the grand context of society. One end of the spectrum paints it as a nuisance to property owners and city officials allow for a criminal perspective of the practice. While at another end you can view it as the artist in a sense blessing others with the fruits of their inner consciousness. An artistic expression no matter what the viewpoint of society, in an anthropological context graffiti is essential to modern society and its impact is one that cannot be forgotten or lived without.
Around the world, people have been searching for and experimenting with different ways to express themselves. One of the most diverse ways takes place in the form of art. Art is comprised of many different categories and sub-categories, but all of them sending the same message: expression. As long as a piece is created from emotion, beliefs, and influence, it can be considered “art”. One of the forms of art that takes on a 3-dimensional affect is the sculpture. Sculptures are one of the earliest forms of art, right next to its 2-dimensional “cousin”, Drawings. Two specific sculptures that take place in the B.C. era are “Memi&Sabu” and “Statue of Gudea”.
We see what people have gone through in their paintings, by looking at every single detail big or small. Every detail that’s in a painting could have a deep meaning to it. The colors give an idea of what the painting could be about, is it exhilarating or depressing? Although it may be surprising, art helps express emotions. “I tried to drown my sorrows, but the bastards learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed with this decent and good feeling.” Kahlo had finally gotten past her desolation. Sometimes art could help you become a stronger person by helping you with personal issues. It’s also a stress reliever for some people it’ll relax them and put them in a good state of mind. Kahlo stayed strong throughout all the pain she went through her whole life. For instance, she had 30 operations throughout her whole life and they were all because of the bus
Mention the word graffiti and what typically comes to mind is something unpleasant and distasteful like indecent language scribbled on a wall of a store or crude pictures. Most graffiti is characterized as vandalism on property that does not belong to the culprit. Graffiti also displays negative graphics that promote some type of vulgar message such as violence, sex, drugs, gangs, and racism. On the other hand, when the terms “street” and “art” come together, a blast of colorful creations upon blank slates on the street comes to mind. Although street art is technically considered graffiti, it is a type of graffiti with positive qualities, but certain figures in society find street art to be, in some way, disruptive. If used properly, street art can be appreciated artistically and socially. Despite the negative stigma attached to graffiti, street art has emerged as a progressive valuable art form whose vast history, surge in popularity, and urge for social change warrant its classification as a fine art.
According to Webster’s Dictionary, art is “human expression of objects by painting, etc” (10). The words “human experience” adds meaning to art. Artists reveal their inner thoughts and feelings through their work. When we study a painting by Salvador Dali, the strange objects and the surrealist background portrays the eccentricity of the painter. Some ideas cannot be explained verbally. They can only be shown via a medium. We can get across what is in our minds or our hearts by a stroke of a brush, a drop of paint, a row of words, or something else. But to express ourselves, we do not need to limit what we call art.
Graffiti today is developing into one of the finest and one of the most successful voices of modern art. Graffiti has been alive since the time people used to paint in caves. Modern graffiti actually made an impact in the late 1960s. This art has been struggling for a very extensive time to be considered as such, even though government regarded it as a criminal act. The fact of the matter is that in the past it has been an interpretation of anger against the establishment. Most people haven’t acted on writing graffiti in obedience of the law, while others take it into action to show discontent by making more graffiti. This practice has become more of a symbol that can express better the feelings of the practitioner. As graffiti started taking
Modern art runs a very important role in man’s life throughout history, because it that does not only give us inspiration but also the freedom to express ourselves through the use of different mediums.
Contemporary art is produced at the present period in time, which it mainly refers to the meaning of the spirit, and have a modern art Modern language. When people are faced with a work of art, there is a complex judgment or intuition feeling which to consider about it has artistic value or not. Exposure of today's artists and cultural environment and in the face of today's reality, their work will inevitably reflect the characteristics of today. “A work of art is a tautology in that it is a presentation of the artist’s intention, that is, he is saying that a particular work of art is art, which means, is a definition of art” (Diarmuid Costello, Jonathan Vickery, pg.22, 2007). Artistic inheritance is a historical necessity of any art is constantly successor of the previous generation of art. Development of contemporary art can be said to follow the human development and growth. Of course, no matter what kind of art form, and they reflect the performance of all modern social changes which to bring the social and psychological characteristics to show the artist's exploration of artistic expression.
Street art is understood to be a subculture of graffiti, but cannot be simply defined as one form (Hughs). “Street art, originally coined by Allan Schwartzman in 1985 (Lewisohn, 2008),
“In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay. Moreover, unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it.” This quote by Ernst Fischer, a German composer, means that truth in art exposes the parts of society, and of life, that no one wants to see. In order for art to change society, it must first reflect the fears and failures of its people. The artist can change how people think of themselves and the world by using less conventional methods of creating art. The artist, in doing this, introduces new ideas of human placement in time and space, new frontiers of thought, that are furthered by the disciplines of science and philosophy. The artist works to introduces unique- and sometimes offensive- ideas so that society will be exposed to new ways of thinking and understanding the world. The artist does this through experimentation with color, style, and form. Therefore, the purpose of the artist should be to challenge how individuals perceive themselves and the offensive aspects of society reflected in art to bring about innovations in the greater society.
Human’s have always struggled to express themselves. Art, is considered by many to be the ultimate form of human expression. Many assume that art has a definition, but this is not the case. Art, it can be said, is “in the eye of the beholder.” This simply means that what you consider art, someone else would not. Art is part of a person’s internal emotions, which signifies why different people see art as different things. Every type of culture and era presents distinctive and unique characteristics. Different cultures all have different views of what art can, and would be, causing art itself to be universally renowned throughout the world.
All throughout time people have used their imaginative minds to express some form of art, whether it be painting, drawing, sculpture, and dance, theatre, music or technology, this has happened all around the world. Furthermore, I think that the youth of the world have the biggest imagination because everything to them is new and they can’t help but imagine “what if” or “how”. Therefor that’s the power of imagination, and preferably for me I use it for art. Art to me is almost like an escape from everything negative in my life. Many say that art is beauty, and we say beauty ...
