Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, writer and civil rights activist. Angelou describes different types of tones in her poems, but in her poem “Still I Rise” Angelou uses loss tone in this poem as she got up from the pain she felt and hurt she been through of being raped. Then Angelou went mute for several years until the wake of his murder. For her love with poetry that 's when she started speaking again. This poem also showed how Angelou show how she poses to the audience and heritage. In this poem it appeared as if Angelou was trying to show all the hard obstacles she had been through all those years. Angelou been through so much more, but she also has written poems, books, traveled worldwide and use her experience to help others live a better life. “Still I Rise” is a poem that focus on the courage, survival and pride in one’s self. The poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou explains loss in the stanza the poem first word “You” is I rise. I rise. I rise.” This seems like she got through the maze of being loss to being able to breathe and have that freedom. The poem “Still I Rise” means that there 's no way of stopping Angelou from saying how she feel because she has the power in herself to when I fall I 'm still going rise to the top. People will talk behind your back, and people will spread rumors, but will that stop you from rising. Angelou transformed “I’ll rise” to “I rise” where it shows that she moved forward. Angelou went from wanting to rise to rising, and showing the readers to do the same.
