Stepping up to that podium as my name was announced as the next speaker. Full of tears excitement, and nervousness, all I knew was that I had to be strong and confident while making my speech. But exactly how was I chosen for this amazing honor? Flashing back, it all started at Parkway West High School the 2011-2012 school year. I was only a freshman and I came into high school with much ambition. Throughout my High School career I worked very hard, so hard that I became number two in my class by senior year. Just thinking about it I still can’t believe till this day I maintained all A’s and a few B’s every year in high school I thought to be the smartest girl in the school. Besides grades, writing was a huge part of my High School career …show more content…
I then at that point had a flashback of everything that was actually a disparity to me in high school. (Quote from Malcolm X and short explanation to show why and the point of disparity, make connection, copy and paste short piece from week 2 response.) While in that flashback I begin to write the connection between then and at that current point. Tears begin to roll down my face making the ink smear but I still kept going. Front and back of about 3-4 pages or loose-leaf paper begin to fill up like a (compare to something filled.) My speech then was complete and I felt like an Olympic gold winner so excited and proud sitting there dreaming as if I was jumping in the air with excitement with my speech in my hand. Wow what a feeling! Reality then hit me as I woke up for school the next day. My alarm went off and if you could only see how I looked, my night looked pretty rough. But my speech was complete and all I was waiting for was the day I was able to present it. Being that I connected my feelings so much with this piece of writing was so amazing to me. (Find quote from one of the articles explain and connect) This writing was just one of the most important writings that I have written so far. I couldn’t wait until the day I was able to present it to the
My middle school’s dean smiles while handing me my certificate. I gave her my best fake smile and stood in line with the rest of my classmates who made the honor roll. I put my medal around my neck, held my certificate in my left hand, and put my right arm behind my back. I can’t believe I left my jacket in my mom’s car.
David McCullough Jr., delivered the commencement at Wellesley High School in Massachusetts on June 1st 2012 to staff, the 2012 graduates, and their family and friends. The speech was straightforward and supplied valuable information for their future. . McCullough’s speech at times felt harsh, offensive, and insulting. His words and examples were given to achieve insight, knowledge, and awareness for each student’s future. The commencement expressed a great deal of achievement, but conveyed that there was more work to be done. His speech was effective and appreciated through humor parallelism, repetition, and anaphora. His point of view has obtained respect and determination by all those that have been challenged and have heard his words.
Martin Luther King's' speech "I have a dream" showed that no matter race, beliefs or gender, people can improve their destiny. Through determination, Martin Luther King and his followers managed to make the American dream more attainable for millions of black Americans. The American dream consists of having equal access to opportunities for economic prosperity through hard work. This belief was incredibly important, during the novel's times Of Mice and Men, as farmers abandoned their land, due to natural disasters in the dust bowl, and moved to California to pursue their dream. This also affects the characters Crooks, Curley's wife and George. In his novel, John Steinbeck
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath to become president and gave an inaugural speech. He gave the speech at Federal Hall in New York City (“George”). Observes said he had looked like he would rather be facing cannon and musket fire then taking the political helm of the country (“George”). When giving the speech, he wore a plain brown broadcloth suit holding a ceremonial army sword (“George”). George Washington’s Inaugural Speech paved the way for the United States government to function as an independent country.
Out of nowhere my name got called to claim the award of “Most improved student of Class of 2014”. I was so proud of myself, it felt so good to know that I achieved something that I really wanted. I knew I could do something if I put my mind to it, and I did and I was so proud of
Many people know the name Donald Trump very well, while others know little about him. Some have very strong opinions to Trump running for president and others are on his side, despite what he says. This is a very controversial topic in politics right now, especially because he has many supporters and he is a republican. Donald Trump has too many suspicions about his running for president. For example, he ran for president before as a Democrat but failed and he went to run again, but is now a Republican. Trump also had gone bankrupt before, yet he is running for president. He also has made statements that he wants to stop immigrants from coming into the United States, which has made a lot of people believe he is racist. There are many different
Being inducted into the National Honors Society is what I have been waiting for. Becoming a member is nothing more than a dream come true, and I appreciate it greatly. If I am to be chosen as a member I know that I will be a positive and dependable participant in society activities. Due to my abilities and past experiences, I can be considered a valuable candidate because I demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and character. I do feel that if I am chosen, I will do nothing detract from the prestige and respectability that is associated with the society.
I would like to open with a quote from Charles Swindoll. It reads, “life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how you react to it.” I am a firm believer of this statement because there will always be things out of your control, but your reaction will always be up to you. As for the positive experiences, those are the ones you cherish most, but the negatives are what teach you the most. After listening to my speech, I want you to understand how both the positive and negative experiences in my life have benefitted me. I was able to develop significant skills and relationships through the major events in my life.
...ity that is being thrown my way. I read my piece as if the words came from my heart quite perfectly. I stood in front of them with confidence. I stood there, declaring, and proving my intellect, and my worth. I got a standing ovation. People were in awe. I felt proud.
I Have a Dream was a speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. This speech was delivered on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The speech was intended for the 250,000 civil rights supporters that attended. The speech addressed the topic of equality for the African Americans and the White people. The purpose of the speech was to address the issues of segregation and racism as a whole. King speaks about the issues of racism and segregation in America during the 1960’s. He encourages the use of non-violent protests and to fight for equality to help America solve the issue.
Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.
Ok, its 12:15 and I just walked into my house from seeing a movie with three of my best friends and I have to write this speech. A speech that’s suppose to inspire all of you, and tell you how the future has so much to hold for the class of 2015, how the possibilities are endless. Right now I’m probably standing in the front of the class and supposed to be addressing all of you as “fellow graduates, or to the class of 15’”. But that’s not what I’m going to do. I put this off as I do with the majority of my work thinking I would just write something everyone expects to hear, but instead I wrote this.

Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
