We crave horror movies simply for “the fun of it” in agreeing with Stephen King Why We Crave Horror movies. King gave multiple examples in his story as to why we crave horror movies and I can agree with just about each and every one of them. After watching a few horror movies for yourself, you will understand why it is easy to agree with King. If you have watched movies such as the 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead, The Purge, or The Conjuring you will also be able to relate to Chuck Klosterman My Zombie, Myself “Zombies are just so easy to kill.” Klostermans theory of zombies are extremely useful because it sheds insight on the difficult yet exciting problem of zombies in the real world. Klosterman’s argument that the repetition of modern life is exactly like slaughtering zombies may be correct, along King’s argument that we indulge in horror movies to re-establish our feelings of essential normality. In order to be able to understand the persistence of zombies in popular culture we must first take a look at Klosterman’s argument and also Kings Argument.
According to King we all know someone who does things like talk to themselves or even make faces at certain things when no one is watching, maybe that someone is you. “I think that we’re all mentally ill” (16). This is somewhat true, there is not one person in the world that is perfect. It was one said that horror movies provide psychic relief, it also allows us to release some of our emotions and fears from our body. King acknowledges that we are “daring the nightmares” in other words he is saying we are challenging a nightmare to take place by watching the scary movie.

Now that we have a looked at zombies being undead, and how they cannot be related to humans we have better understanding of zombies being persistent in society. The idea of a zombie is made up and it comes from nzambi, the Kongo word for the spirit of a dead person. In states such as Louisiana, or the Creole culture they believe zombies represent a person who has dies and brought back to life with no speech. Kings psychological argument on how we have an urge to watch horror movies because it helps to re-establish our feelings and feel natural again. Klusterman’s sociological essay helped us see the comparison of zombies and humans in real life. In conclusion zombies are not real, they are make believe but help bring a sense of normality to people.
