“You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’ ". I was 14 when I first came across this awesome quote by the great G B Shaw. I can say that this was the concoction that inculcated my liking towards engineering and I started looking at things from engineering perspective. I was born in the ‘DETROIT OF INDIA- PUNE’, a city which had many global automobile car/truck manufacturing facility. As a kid who lived in the locality surrounded by car/truck manufacturing companies and other auto ancillary, was enthralled by the state of art manufacturing facilities and the engineering behind producing a vehicle. My inclination towards automobile grew when I first visited TATA MOTORS, Asia’s major automaker, in my 8th grade of school with my uncle who worked there. I was amused by the huge machinery, automation and world class technology. And there I made a decision to pursue 'Mechanical Engineering' as my undergraduate degree initially and later Masters in Automotive Engineering, the only way I can satisfy my quest for knowledge and then contribute to it in a positive and constructive manner towards automobile industry.
The mobility has influenced many areas of a human's life since the invention of the wheel. While, in the early days of motorized vehicles, technical developments concentrated on simple mechanical or electrical issues, in the past decades, the electronics and with it, the microprocessor technology has become a central part of innovation in vehicles. Future developments of trendsetting style will be the conversion of the drive train from purely internal combustion engine to hybrid or alternative powertrain systems, the car-to-car communication and the autonomous vehicles. European car companies provide their buyers with innovative variety and revolutionary luxuries. European car technology is superior to American car technology due to their safety, entertainment, and luxury features.
In conclusion, schools should provide the opportunity for students to complete an automotive repair program. Ever since mass production of the model T ford, transportation has become essential in human civilization. The evolution in mechanics since 1917, continues to progress. As society relies on and leans toward technology, auto mechanics has become an important career field. The dependence on transportation in society’s daily lives makes auto mechanics a major priority. As technology continues to progress, the need for schools to educate students on auto mechanics is essential for America to remain competitive. Students equipped with this knowledge will be more likely to succeed in their nearby futures.
The automotive industry is one of the most important sectors of the economy for every country in the world. It involves a large number of corporations and institutions engaged in the manufacturing process of motor vehicles including designing, developing, manufacturing, marketing, and selling. It contributes to the global economic growth by generating a significant return and creating a ripple effect on supporting the supply chain as well as providing job opportunities for the skilled workers (ACEA, 2016).
My interest in the field of Automobile goes back to my early years in high school which is when I decided to pursue a career in engineering. As a child I was always fascinated by the very concept of automobile. Further, my father’s constant involvement in the automotive industry as an insurance claims assessor further enhanced my interests in automobiles. He was the one responsible for showing me the correct path to pursue my career in automobile field. Hence, after having completed my primary education, I decided to delve straight into the world of mechanics and engineering and pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering followed by a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Since there were very few options in India & there was no direct path to get into automobile field.

Over the past 50 years, automobiles have allowed people to live and work in ways “that were unimaginable a century ago” (Hwang, 2014). Automotive vehicles are “fundamental to a functioning global economy and to the well-being of the world’s citizens” (Hwang, 2014) while it also plays a key role in the technology level of other industries and of society (Hwang, 2014). A large part of the world’s population is employed in related manufacturing and services; automotive vehicles are built using the goods of a number of industries, including steel, iron, aluminum, glass, plastics, glass, carpeting, textiles, computer chips, rubber and more.
