A family vacation in 2000 at a Himalayan hill station charted my future career. While enjoying the serene environment of the place, I also watched with dismay the havoc being inflicted on pristine nature in the name of progress. I then made up my mind to make environment my choice of study. By then I was already selected for engineering admission and I opted for Civil Engineering which was the mother branch of Environmental Engineering then. I volunteered to work as an intern during my final year with an Environmental Project consultancy. 3 months of full time work I put there became the base for my undergrad project work. It became a model project in the department and I received very high appreciation from my professor. Later, in professional life I took up Environmental Consultancy specializing on studies related to Air Quality.
While working with different air quality prediction models, I observed wide variation of results under different conditions. This variance of actual data from prediction had baffled me for long. I believe that many models (e.g. - ISCST3, AERMOD) we use f...
KWRII Scholarship Essay As an environmental science major at Northern Kentucky University I have learned what careers are available to me after graduating. Although I do have many goals after I graduate I believe I can only achieve those if I succeed in my schooling. I take pride in the work I do in my courses and always strive to do great. I am always excited for new challenges I encounter during my career at Northern Kentucky University.
¡@¡@During my freshman year, I joined the school's mountaineering club, where I served as a guide and also as president of its photography group. I went to many mountainous areas and ecological preserves, and saw that Taiwan is rich in natural resources; but I also saw that these precious resources are gradually disappearing due to poor planning and illegal land use. This realization solidified my determination to learn concepts of environmental planning and design. Due to my lengthy contact with nature while climbing mountains, I knew that landscape designers should treat nature and residential areas with respect. Over the next two years, I learned more in-depth concepts of landscape design, enhanced my basic abilities in environmental planning, and started developing an interest in urban design. I received commendations from my professors for my performance and ideas. In addition, I served as administrative head of the department student association during these two years, responsible for planning our department exhibitions and intercollegiate activities for exchanging ideas about landscape design. This experience increased my teamwork abilities and efficiency in problem solving, which will be of great help in my future pursuits.
In the course of my undergraduate studies, courses like environmental impact assessment, principles of natural resources, environmental law, environmental auditing, environmental monitoring systems and techniques have broadened my knowledge of Environmental Management. My abilities in report writing, independent research and presentation were immensely improved in my undergraduate final year project and seminar. One of my undergraduate courses on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) increased my interest in Environmental Assessment. The course explored social, economic and environmental impact of drilling operations, factory construction location. We were split into groups and each group developed a flow chat analysis of social and economic benefits with corresponding deterioration environmental effects such as extinction of pollution of underground water, decrease in species diversity due to loss of habitat and air pollution. Presently, I am working with Tracon Integrated Services Limited. I partake in various impact assessments, pollution control, waste management (analysis of biological, chemical and physical parameters to quantify the effects of treated industrial effluent), and renewable energy. Through my on the job training and experience, I have developed a robust knowledge base and research skills necessary to synthesize and synergise research and advance knowledge in the areas...

All of us are born with a blank book of life to fill, how we frame our lives depends on our decisions and circumstances that shape us. With 7 billion people living in this world, every book differs from the other and it is fascinating how every mind is so uniquely alike. From the beginning of life in the womb of the mother till our last breath, our brain is constantly functioning without us realizing the intensity of complex tasks it takes up.
Environmental Studies is the academic field, which systematically studies human interaction with the environment in which we live in. It is a broad field of study that includes the natural environment, built environment, and the sets of relationships between them. Environmental studies takes into account many different factors that help provide an enjoyable, fruitful way of life, such as national policies, politics, laws, economics, sociology and other social aspects, planning, pollution control, natural resources, and the interactions of human beings and nature.
My family and I rarely went on outings; my parents were always busy or at work. Likewise, family trips or vacations were something my parents could not afford. The first time I ever fully experienced the beauty of nature was when I went on a week long trip with my fifth grade class to an outdoor school. This was the first time I went on a real hike and the first time I was really in the middle of nature. Walking through the forest, listening to the birds chirp and the graceful movement of the leaves in the wind changed my perspective. That week, I realized how much beauty there was to discover on Earth. My relationship with the environment started during that trip in fifth grade as I realized that the world is such an immense place full of things to admire and unearth. It was something wholly new to me. I fell in love with the
As we transverse through the realms of imagination and connect with the world of reality, we build personal paradigms, few, which mould our future and stand the test of time. It was one such paradigm that was the reason and conviction behind my decision to opt for CHEMICAL ENGINEERING as my graduate major.
The proposed program will be seeking to develop the best curriculum through which students seek to grow their talents in this field. Environmental engineering has become a key part of the human society and as such, there is a need to transfer these skills to the classroom setting. It is important for this choice of career path to be offered because it will make it possible for learners to participate in transforming the environmental situation that is currently being experienced in the world. The course will seek to train...

I maintained a good academic profile during my undergraduate study, ranking among the top 6% of my graduating class. During my undergraduate study, it was the field of Transportation Engineering that caught my special interest and ever since I have strived to achieve my dream of becoming a Transportation Engineer. My interest for Transportation Engineering was sparked by courses such as Transportation Engineering and Highway Engineering in my third year. These courses introduced me to the fundamentals of traffic engineering and geometric design of roads respectively. As part of the course requirements, we undertook a mini project where we carried out traffic survey and subsequently undertook traffic analysis for a major road in Kumasi, Ghana. We also carried out parking studies and analysis, and presented our results to a panel of Lecturers. Subsequently, I majored in Transportation Engineering in my final year. To augment the theoretical knowledge gained in class, I interned at Ussuya Construction Limited (construction of spintex road 4.0km) during my long vacation, where I gained knowledge in surveying, supervision of road works amongst other
A versatile individual and an ardent learner in all my chosen fields is how I perceive myself today. My childhood provided me a strong base of integrity and honesty upon which I have built a diverse skill set and a strong commitment to success. I opted for civil engineering as my undergraduate major at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, where my knowledge was enhanced by studying courses on Transportation Engineering and thus my liking for this field become much stronger. During second year of under graduation I went for training in Public Works Department, where I had a practical experience about pavement design and construction.
After going through the details on this topic I started realizing the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem. It would not be wrong to say that it has also bought upon a sense of responsibility and maturity in me towards the sensitive issues surrounding us which generally are ignored or are not given much importance by the students of my age group. I do now believe that even our small contribution can make a difference in preserving this great natural gift of God.
Environmental studies is a paramount field to focus on for both the present day and the future. This field of studies pertains to all people, animals, plants, and biomes around the world. Environmental Studying is important because it is only by understands the environmental processes that we can begin to take the steps necessary to correct the on-going damage that is occurring, and ultimately protect and sustain life on the planet. Unless steps are taken to try and abate and control environmental problems, which are often human-generated or exacerbated, then the environmental that we live in will continue to deteriorate. There is no life without protecting the source that sustains us. Even though I have only been alive for seventeen years, it has been long enough to see many negative environmental changes. Since I was born that population has grown by over one billion people causing deforestation, loss of wildlife, increased pollution to both air and water, and even superbugs. However, I have also been able to see extremely positive results such as an increase in the research and implementation of renewable resources. The reason I am so motivated to study environmental science is because I know that change is possible. Those who study environmental science and study have the ability to help reduce, and possible reserve, some of the damage that has been done to the environment while at the same time, helping to advance the well-being of our fellow humans.
