My personal goal is to work toward my next rank in the Army. I am currently a Sergeant in the Army and I am working toward my next rank of Staff Sergeant. The way I am working toward this goal is utilizing some attributes I have learned from the SMART goal process. One I am going to start with my physical conditioning. The way I am working toward this is I am going to start taking time away from work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I am going to implement one hour on these selected days to work on the things I am struggling in. I have currently moved to Colorado and the altitude has put a hindrance on my cardio. To better myself in this area I am going to take thirty minutes on these days and run. The other thirty minutes I am going to work on my pushups as well as my sit ups. I am going to work it as a circuit to where by the time I am done with my run I will have worked the whole hour I am going to stop along the run trail and work the other parts of my body. To ensure I conduct my plan as stated I will ensure I make the time in my schedule as well as not fail myself in this area pushing myself toward these goals stated. Second I am going to work toward my military education. I am currently in Advanced Leaders Course. This course is one key class I have to go through to make the rank of Staff Sergeant. I am also working toward other classes to set myself apart from others. I am going to make it my goal to conduct one class a month until I make the position I am working towards. I am going to allow myself enough time through work to ensure I am conducting these classes by talking to my supervisors and allow it to be a no fail plan. Third I am going to work toward my civilian education which is what I am working toward curr...

When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. Because of this strive to reach and surpass the standards that my brother had set, I developed into a person with great determination. Throughout my life I have always set goals for myself and then did everything I could in order to meet those goals. This aspect of determination in my personality has allowed me to get to where I am today, a student of George Mason University. Whenever I am faced with an obstacle, such as a hard class, I make
This year my long term goal was to focus more on being consistent with my weaknesses. I wanted pullups by the Open had and luckily they came through in the nick of time. Now I would like to get HSPUs by the time I go home to see my family this summer. I want to keep challenging myself to maximize my capabilities; something I wasn’t comfortable doing until I came to CrossFit Ergon. My ultimate goal is to complete my time in the Army and coach Adaptive Athletes and Veterans.Understanding that I will not always perform at 100% and it will be okay helps me remain confident in my training and motivated to meet new goals. I am here to progress in a sport that takes time, lots of technique and patience. Accepting that there are movements I cannot do (at the moment) and enjoying the little wins here and there, help me remain positive. Being surrounded by such an uplifting coaching staff and community of athletes that have come together like CrossFit Ergon has; it is not hard to find the motivation to come and train often. Show up and do work! Accept that most things won’t happen overnight and that every day is another opportunity to better
As a college freshman, I was worried about so many things coming into college. The biggest and most important thing was how to actually succeed in college. This course has helped me tremendously with succeeding in college. Throughout this semester, we have gone through multiple topics to help us succeed in college. The topics range from effective note taking, caring for yourself, how to succeed in college, understanding who you are, and also to planning your priorities. From taking this class, I have learned many strategies that helped me understand who I am as a person, how to take effective notes, and how to plan my time.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. I greatly cherish school and can be an example towards others at Rocky Mountain when it comes to setting academic goals and aspiring all the knowledge I want in my education. I want to influence others to make an effort when it comes to their education and see what they’re capable of. That’s why whenever I look at teachers, I see that they are sharing the gift of new traits for our education, for our futures in life. When looking at those apart of the National Honor Society, I noticed that they have
Being my first semester in college, I was unaware of what this class or any other class would hold. My goals were simple; get good grades at Delta to get good grades at another school to get a good job. I believe that the majority of students share my goals.
My plan for completing my goals were well written. I think I need to work on making sure I complete the goals and get to the gym more often than I do now. My improvements will include slowly getting into working out, instead of trying to work out four times a week when before I rarely went to the gym.
Serving in the Army for the past fifteen years, as a Soldier, Non-Commissioned Officer, Cadet, and Commissioned Officer, I have gained a wealth of military leadership knowledge and experience. Since completing my undergraduate studies and earning my commission in the Army, I have held a variety of command and staff positions. I have led Soldiers in garrison, as well as on combat and operational deployments, each having its own unique challenges and rewards. Throughout the years, I have had the distinct honor and privilege of serving on many great teams and with many outstanding Leaders.
One of the best ways to follow a successful path is to set goals for yourself. They are important to keep yourself on task and to get to a desired point of self fulfillment. The issue can be how to achieve goals in a successful manner. The issue is "Although people may desire or intend to attain some outcome, they are not committed to that as a goal until they are willing to invest affect, cognition, and behavior in attaining it" (Traci Mann, 2013). This is why it is important to have a set path on how to accomplish important goals. I have chosen three goals that I want to accomplish to demonstrate a Process known as SMART, to help accomplish them. There goals are that I want to finally earn a college degree(personal), I want to make it into the honor society while earning my degree(academic), and I want to earn my degree in order to contribute to Autism research(professional). All of these goals range in the amount of time it will take to accomplish them. Some are long term, but I can still use the SMART goal process in order to achieve them. The SMART steps to follow are:
You ask how I will make a contribution to society after I graduate from college. My plan after I graduate from college is to become an officer. By becoming an officer I will contribute to society first by doing what is expected of me, that is putting people out of harm’s way and putting criminals up. Another way I plan to contribute is by becoming a public speaker to the young ones. I plan on pushing them on the right path, a path that will help them achieve their dreams.
Learning is a continuous process and the day that you stop learning is the day that you start decreasing your rewards and lower levels of satisfaction. My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry. I have taken this decision after carefully considering my academic background, profound interest in research and strong aptitude for problem solving.
Having your fitness goal written down and posted in an area where you can see it every day is a sure way to help you stay motivated. Make sure your goals are SMART, meaning S-Specific, M-Measurable, A-Attainable, R-Realistic and T-Timely. This helps you to progress continually and limit possible lapses. Categorize your goals as short-term or long-term as well to help you stay focused on one goal at a time. Short-term goals include start up physical activity such as 10-minute brisk walking a day, using the stairs every day instead of the elevator at the of...
Start to see yourself at your end goal. While the journey is the most important part, envisioning yourself at your end goal can help draw it to you. See yourself having the A in class, see yourself being fit or muscular, and soon enough you'll notice yourself working towards it more than

One of the three most appropriate On Course success strategies that will be best of use to achieve success for me in years to come is discover self-motivation. Defined by Downing as, “finding purpose in their lives by discovering personally meaningful goals and dreams” (296). Being able to use this strategy will be the key to my future success. Having motivation to do all the work given to me from my classes will keep me at a good grade. Passing my classes is what I need to do to reach my goal. I cannot do this without the fuel given to me by my motivation to finish to hard work and reach my destiny. Without my motivation there will be no desire to finish and accomplish what is really important and meaningful in life, and that is not what I want. A good example I keep in my mind to never repeat is senior year and the lack of motivation I had to finish up my last year. I ended with two C’s and that is very disappointing for me. Keeping this in mind will allow me to not lose motivation and keep thinking of the positive outcome because motivation is everything! Good concept to remembering motivation quoted by Downing, “…one formula explains much a...
