This adage resonates with my belief in always trying to be singular in identifying and pursuing my endeavor, I have accorded equal attention to the journey towards the goals and the eventual destination. I believe it is vital to enjoy the journey just as much as it is imperative to focus on the destination.
As a so called “Y generation” kid I was initially confined with my thought of technology around only computers- nothing beats the feeling of turning on a brand new computer- be it a laptop or desktop. A new system is a blank slate-a starting point to turn it into anything you like. But, during my high school I got to know that the oldest computer known to mankind was called “Antikythera Mechanism”- an analog computer designed to calculate astronomical position around 1 BC-84 BC. Getting to know this left me with a question and idea that changed my view on reality- What are the purposes of these? This was fortunately my first meaningful question in childhood and trying to find answers for my ideas helped crafting me.
Hence when it came to making a career decision, Engineering in Computer Science (B.E CSE) at an impeccable technological university in Chennai - Anna University was an obvious choice for me. This early connection gave me a higher desire to drill into computer, technology and information which right came in line on my undergraduate computer science curriculum. Life is a beautiful and unique gift to us. Although it is said that our destiny has already been written, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t need to work for our dreams to come true. Indian spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda, had spoken about the way to success: Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it and live on that idea. This is what I think exactly of how a person’s passion should be. Without an aim, there is no meaning to life. It gives directionality to the spirit and purpose for living. Some dream of serving their country by joining defense services while some for the better health care of the society; wants to be doctors of tomorrow. For me, my long term career objective is to become a faculty at the university level, fully engaged in research for the betterment of upcoming generations. That is why I am applying for Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), so that I can pursue my higher studies at an institution which I am sure, will help me in making my desired career.
But it is most important to know why you are doing what you are doing. In order to keep one’s momentum
In my capacity as a Maintenance Planning Engineer at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), I was primarily involved in tasks that required strategizing and organizing. Working for a multi-billion dollar enterprise, I saw the effects of operational efficiency on the Balance Sheet. This experience has driven me in my pursuit of delivering better performance with every attempt and has shaped my decision to pursue a career in Industrial Engineering (IE), a field that strives to increase productivity and efficiency by systematic study and application of non-traditional methods.
When I was ten, on watching the building elevator move up and down, I tried to create a small toy elevator using the motor and remote control of a toy car. I suspended the toy lift with threads on my room’s window, put my little GI Joe figurines in it, and made them move up and down. Later in school, I developed interest in Physics and Mathematics. Meanwhile, in my junior college of Science, I got an excellent exposure to most of the concepts of Physics by reading books such as 'Lecture on Physics by Feynman’ and 'Fundamentals of Physics' by Resnick & Halliday. My interest in the study of electromagnetism, and power gradually peaked after I read the about the work done by eminent scientists in these fields. It was then I decided to pursue Electrical engineering since it comprised of subjects that catered to my interests like power and electromagnetism.
A fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology motivated me to take up engineering. The power of research and delivering it for the growth of Society is what makes me interested in the technology side of science. I choose to major Computer science Engineering with an intense urge to delve into this challenging field. During my under graduation program I learned the various fundamentals of Computer science Engineering which together with practical course works reinforced my interest.

After the completion of my undergraduate degree in 2012, I have been making constant efforts to develop a better understanding in the field of Electrical Engineering. So, I joined_______ and worked there as a Trainee Electrical Engineer for over 1 year. My training responsibilities areas were circuit breakers supervision, switch yard equipment and bus-bars calculation observation, making reports of ratings, and readings of generators and transformers.
“A person doesn’t gain knowledge by possessing an insatiable thirst for it, But by searching for the means to quench it”.
“To live without regret, we must have a concrete purpose, continually setting goals and challenges for ourselves. Those who don't have challenges don't have responsibilities.” - C. Joy Bell C.
Ever since my childhood I have been fascinated and mystified by the working of machines. Watching a simple arrangement of gears perform complex function was nothing less than an illusion. I was always fascinated by games like Lego and Machine Mechanics because they required my utmost concentration and attention. Dismantling and mantling my toys always gave me a sense of satisfaction. Overdriven by my fascination and curiosity I took science as a major in high school and finally mechanical engineering as a specialization in my bachelors degree.
It is after a good deal of self evaluation that I have decided to pursue my self graduate studies in Electrical & Electronics Engineering leading to a doctorate. This is a decision followed naturally after carefully considering my ultimate background, the area of my interest, and my ultimate professional ambition, which is to pursue a research career, either as a teaching faculty member or a R & D department of industry. i have come to terms with the fact that there is an enormous proportion of subject to be assimilated, therefore I want to take up a research oriented course in my career. These coupled with a background of my educated father, an Superintendent engineer in APGENCO has made my choice of higher studies all the more obvious.
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
This perfectly holds true for me in the world of Computer Engineering where novel ideas are not a novelty. It is this novelty that entices me to this field and gives me a deep sense of professional pride. In this context, I would like to pursue my graduation in Computer Engineering, which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides a strong platform for my future career goals.
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about 30 minutes usually takes about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting productivity and has become a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I currently work. To this end, Transportation Engineers are needed to design roads/ highways that will stand the test of time, plan effective traffic management systems to reduce
From my perspective, excellent electronic engineers are a group of gifted and imaginative talents who bravely explore and innovate, change the world with passion and innovation. I have always dreamed of becoming one of them. For realizing this dream, I started from China 's Jilin University and then joined The University of Manchester for BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering to take more advanced professional courses. In UoM, I managed to gain GPA of 4.0. Yet, my pursuit of the dream does not end there, since I plan to apply for M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Carnegie Mellon University, where I can receive the best education among the world.
"A University should be a place of delight, of liberty, and of learning," remarked Benjamin Disraeli, an English author, as if he had Carnegie Mellon in mind as he placed his thoughts in writing. How could the Institute of Technology help me achieve intellectual independence and assist me in pursuing a life of ideas? Being one of the finest establishments in the world, Carnegie Institute of Technology would allow me to fulfill my perfectionist ideals; I would be able to compete with the best and the brightest. Moreover, the non-academic life within a dynamic campus with a strong sense of community would enhance the challenging courses that the university has to offer. It is not simple to find a distinctive institution with incredible resources as well as personal attention. With a small faculty-to-student ratio in all classes, I could truly have significant interaction with the professors while simultaneously retaining the knowledge I'd be acquiring. The hands-on experience with up-to-date equipment would be like a dream come true as I'd encompass myself with ubiquitous, influential technology which is taken for granted by the common person. Taking advantage of the broad spectrum of undergraduate programs, I would improve my ability to think quantitatively, solve complicated problems, and apply my knowledge to the real world. There are there kinds of students: one who has the brain for math and sciences; one who is able to think analytically about pieces of literature and historical documents; and finally, one who understands all. I fall into the first type.
