Life is a beautiful and unique gift to us. Although it is said that our destiny has already been written, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t need to work for our dreams to come true. Indian spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda, had spoken about the way to success: Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it and live on that idea. This is what I think exactly of how a person’s passion should be. Without an aim, there is no meaning to life. It gives directionality to the spirit and purpose for living. Some dream of serving their country by joining defense services while some for the better health care of the society; wants to be doctors of tomorrow. For me, my long term career objective is to become a faculty at the university level, fully engaged in research for the betterment of upcoming generations. That is why I am applying for Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), so that I can pursue my higher studies at an institution which I am sure, will help me in making my desired career.

Last autumn as I began my graduate studies in Information Management at the University of Washington while working at Microsoft, I was struck by a short biography of Dr. Bror Saxberg hanging on the Wall of Rhodes Scholars. Dr. Saxberg made a significant impact in education by enabling children to maximize their success in life. He did this by focusing on how children learn, how technology could benefit them, and by creating an “economic engine” that allowed his work to be self-funding so that he could continue to innovate. His contributions inspired me to apply both my curiosity for learning and fifteen years of technology design experience to higher goals.

I already have a life plan, others might not be as far along with their life goals, as I am, but that is not a bad thing, it just means that they have some searching to do. Being able to know what you want to do with your life, and how to get there, is an important thing to figure out, as soon as you can figure out what you want to do with your life. Discovering what you want to do in your life is often a good source of motivation to reaching your goals, whenever I start to struggle or fall behind in class I start to think about what is at stake for my future, and I ask the question, “what would I do with my life, if I couldn’t be a doctor?” Being able to have clear goals of what I want to do in my life allows me to look to the goals I have set for myself in life as a source of motivation, and work as hard as I can to reach them, even against all odds. Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. When I was ten, on watching the building elevator move up and down, I tried to create a small toy elevator using the motor and remote control of a toy car. I suspended the toy lift with threads on my room’s window, put my little GI Joe figurines in it, and made them move up and down. Later in school, I developed interest in Physics and Mathematics. Meanwhile, in my junior college of Science, I got an excellent exposure to most of the concepts of Physics by reading books such as 'Lecture on Physics by Feynman’ and 'Fundamentals of Physics' by Resnick & Halliday. My interest in the study of electromagnetism, and power gradually peaked after I read the about the work done by eminent scientists in these fields. It was then I decided to pursue Electrical engineering since it comprised of subjects that catered to my interests like power and electromagnetism.

These are vital parts that have contributed to framing me into the person I’ve become. They have also shaped my short-term and long-term goals in life. It’s critical for one to have a vision for their life and what they anticipate to accomplish. Without a vision or desire there is no hope for one to continue and to purse anything. My experiences with in my passions have helped me aligned my vision for my life. They have given me the valuable knowledge that have set me up for success to get to this point in life.
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
People travel miles in search of their true passion; some find them early in their life and I consider myself lucky enough to be one among them. I found my true calling at the age of 12 on a field trip to a milk factory. It seemed like the Disneyland of science with huge machineries, conveyer belts running all around, and instruments working about in their own rhythm with sheer intricacies and perfection. As a kid, I was eager to understand the mechanics behind this magical rhythm. The desire of gaining in-depth knowledge about Control System and Automation eventually led me to choose Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering as my undergraduate study.
Finding my passion has been my goal for years. Finding my career, on the other hand, is inspired by my passion. Whenever I do something I love, I give all I’ve got, and I put so much effort into it. Life is the process of cooking, and I am the Chef. What I plan on making is my decisions and actions, and what I end up presenting is my future. If I add in the right ingredients with the correct amounts, I succeed. If I don’t, I fail. It all depends on my priorities in life. Can I make popcorn without oil? Surprisingly yes, but that would be tasteless popcorn. Can I succeed without putting enough effort? Maybe, but that wouldn’t result with the future I want.

My family has instilled a deep and sound sense of respect in me towards Mother Nature. This quote has nothing to do with me. But in due course of time, I realised how wrong I was. I strongly believe that its duty of each and every individual to take care of this planet and consider it not as a heritage from our ancestors; but a gift for our future generation.
