"The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are." - J.P. Morgan. It often happens that the very best of our competencies and strengths are brought into action when we willingly take on challenges and transform them into milestones. Reading through editorials, magazines and numerous articles it became progressively clear that a potent majority of business leaders took off early in their careers and with a marked level of focal point. After completing graduation in electronics engineering, I accepted the chance to act with an IT consulting firm delivering a worldwide presence. As a consultant at an early stage I was given the responsibility to develop a product for a Dutch client in the banking sector. The responsibility, enhanced my skills of handling complex issues and being a team-player. It helped me understand the entire life-cycle of technology product development and gave an opportunity to interact with global clients. After 3 years, another opportunity made me work with a leading US investment bank. Here I developed an inclin...
Hardship and change often times spur growth or demise; this is true in nature as much as it is in business. Thomas Green has reached the pinnacle of his career as a salesman, given the opportunity to level-up; he must now decide whether or not his abilities to adapt are as strong as his motivation to succeed. Is he willing to stop doing all the things that allowed him to succeed as an individual and relearn what it takes to succeed as a leader? Great performers must have the emotional intelligence and self-awareness that allows them to adapt and evolve the skill sets needed to become great leaders. (Goleman, 2000, p. 5) Green must choose to start listening to what is required from those that he reports to so he can become the leader that is needed by those that report to him.
It is in the situations that challenge us that we are truly able to achieve our full potential.
Probably, most people start their personal statement with “ever since I was little…”, but that’s not the case for me. My story is a little different; I always wanted to be an architect or an engineer, studying anything business-related simply never even crossed my mind, until recently, when a great-uncle of mine recommended I read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. After reading it, I was fascinated. I dove deeper into business and finance, and found it amazing. The relationship between nature, mathematics and business astonishes me. Things like how Fibonacci described a way to identify reversals, centuries before stocks were invented, mystifies me.
“Progressing lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.”- Khalil Gibran
To achieve greatness, I believe that talent and hard work, even though essential, are not abundant, one should also pursue passion oriented dreams. It took me some time to find out how to chase my dreams in the real world. When I was twenty years old, I was studying Engineering at The University of Technology. At that time, I did not know what could be my dream, but I certainly came to understand what could NOT be my dream: being an engineer or a faculty member in the Engineering field. The reason was simple. I did not want to know just how objects work, but I wanted to know how people interact with themselves. After a while, I decided to change my field of study. Considering all relevant graduate programs, I came to believe that Master of Business Administration would be a good choice for me, since it was the best social science program available in my country in terms of international orientation, quality of education, and creditability of faculty members. I ranked 104th over 80,000 participants in National Universities Entrance Exam for MBA program. Furthermore, I took the National Entrance Exam of The State University and I got first position in my field. Consequently, I chose The State University "The Mother University" to study MBA.
Who knew growing up would be so stressful. No one gave me advice on how to get through the rough times, I had to learn on my own. But nothing has or ever will stop me from achieving my goals. Most of my family didn't finish school, or got the chance to start college, but if I Lizette Mendoza finish high school and college, I would be the third person in the family to do so. I want to be that third person to make my parents proud.
My father always tells me, “Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life.” I believe in living my life by this mantra. When faced with the decision of which career path to pursue, I reflected upon my past experiences and tried to determine which were the most positive. I tried to determine which experiences I found challenging, which ones I found enjoyable, and which experiences I would like to be a part of my daily life. There were two experiences that most influenced my decision. The first was my experience as a counselor in a summer camp for children with severe developmental delays. There, I was the primary caregiver for these children, helping them with all their basic needs while also giving them a summer filled with
My goal is to be in the business school of the college I attend and pursue a concentration in management or marketing.
In order to complete and obtain long term goals within life, one must have courage to motivate
My ultimate goal in my career is to make a commendable contribution to the computing world either by starting an innovative venture or doing research which would change the dimensions of future computing and the way we perceive the computers. Now I have determined that a dedicated higher study on Computer Science will enable me to aggregate all my previous knowledge & experience on the field and encourage in achieving my career goal. I am looking at Graduate studies to provide me with the required expertise to carry out higher studies.
I am applying for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University for the summer 2014 session, keeping in mind my future objectives of doing a PhD in Health Information Technology. My desire and enthusiasm for further study and research is motivated by professional goals and intellectual curiosity. I would like to pursue a career in the development of new Health-IT systems, especially remote monitoring technologies, technology-supported translation services, c and self-management tools through mobile technologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of information flow in a healthcare setting. I strongly believe the intellectual environment at Georgetown University will provide me an opportunity to meet distinguished academicians, industry leaders and future entrepreneurs and collaborate on multidisciplinary and invigorating projects.
Over the recent years, the business world has become rapidly integrated across the once restricting borders, and anyone with goals that are set high in the business world must be aware of the international perspectives and must have a wide knowledge of the international arenas that are there today. Living in Kenya, one of Africa’s best tourist destinations, gave me a unique experience because it allowed me to have a diverse background both academically and professionally which has exposed me to different continents, peoples, cultures, and languages due to the large number of tourists that visit the country, and the diversity that they bring along. From a very young age, I began learning about tourism and how the tourism industry works, including the various stakeholders that are involved in order to make a destination successful. Being brought up in Kenya, I believe that I am familiar with the increasingly important markets, both niche and new, in this region, and thus I am thoroughly prepared for the challenges and demands that I will come across during my studies in the MBA program at your institution.
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
As a child I never once thought of having a dream career, until I reached high school. What lead me towards working in the computer field was because my dad was an electrician, and he showed me how to wired and solder circuit boards. I was really interested in that kind of work, so I thought to myself that I want to be some kind of engineer. Now knowing that I wanted to be an engineer, I assumed that electrical engineer was my future career until I started to work in the real world. At my first real job I worked with engineers of all kinds: IT, mechanical, and electrical engineers. Working with the different kinds of engineer and getting advice from them led me to have a career in IT or cybersecurity.
This perfectly holds true for me in the world of Computer Engineering where novel ideas are not a novelty. It is this novelty that entices me to this field and gives me a deep sense of professional pride. In this context, I would like to pursue my graduation in Computer Engineering, which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides a strong platform for my future career goals.
