The most interesting parts of Obama’s speech, to me, were the clarifications on his educational policies. His plans for higher education, such as halting student loan payments after 20 years or 10 years for public servants, seemed pretty cool to me. I’m not sure if taking government money to be used for student loans and giving it to parents while simultaneously stopping loan payments after 20 years is such a good idea. Pissing off the entire banking system might not be such a good idea in the long run. Grunts will be fired before CEOs cut their own bonuses, and I really don’t feel like that is particularly conducive to a good financial system. Another thing that upset me was his concept of bipartisan reprimand. I seriously think that there is a massive issue with the current bipartisan system of government, and the gridlock on the healthcare bill is simply symptomatic of this increasingly serious problem. A lot of people thought that Obama’s “calling out” of the two parties during his speech was super cool and impartial and proof that he is the Second Coming, but it was no ...
In the United States, the government has been run as a “representative” democracy. With every presidency comes change, however, one thing does not change and that is the State of the Union Address. Every President is tasked with giving a speech to address the state of the country specifically on the economy and the current budget. The speech is supposed to give American citizens a sense of hope, comradery, and belief that the leader of the free world is making every effort to make this country better for all who are apart of it. However, with the newly elected President, during his State of the Union Address he promoted division and intentional attacks towards immigrant in the United States.
The first thing Obama does in his speech is bring up American past times. He connects those pastimes with the audience by saying there is a spirit that every American
In 1981, former president Ronald Reagan was inaugurated into office and just a couple days ago current president Donald Trump was inaugurated into office. When a president is inaugurated into house, they generally give an inaugural speech about what they will and can do for America. In Ronald Reagan’s inaugural address, he shares his thoughts about America and plans to come. Using different literary devices Ronald Reagan characterizes America as a broken country but, by using hard work and effort, America can truly be great.
President Obama’s Address to the nation was presented on January 5, 2016. His speech was shown on all of the major network stations. The main goal of his speech was to get the point across to the nation about the increasing problem of gun use. His speech really focused on the issue of gun control and if it would benefit the country. Overall, the biggest idea of his Address was that gun control is a large issue in the United States. The way to prevent deaths caused by firearms can be prevented in other ways than taking peoples guns away. The examples brought up in this Address really stood out to me. The use of personal, national, and global examples really made his speech stronger on the topic of effectiveness.
George Washington, the first president of the United States, had written a very important historical speech and document towards the end of his time in office. He had written the Farewell address which focused on helping America understand the importance of preserving unity, acknowledging the rise of political parties forming, strengthening religion and morality, and he stated his position on American foreign policy. He addressed these ideas with strong tone and used incredible amount of dictions that strengthens his tone as well as representing his appeal to ethos to a strong degree. However, today’s society seemed to forget Washington’s position on foreign policy and has created a new form of the policy. But nonetheless as time grew, change occurs. In today’s society Washington’s foreign policy would include many positive and negative manifestations, but it is still a speech and document that will always apply to America.
From his extremely vivid imagery at the beginning to his conclusion that America plans to seek a solution with Russia and other nations, the president’s flow from using pathos to logos to ethos made his speech very effective and compelling. His argument was backed up and supported all through out his speech, which helped his audience believe that what he was saying is true and important. However, his speech would have been nothing without the implication and opinion that America is the strongest nation in the world. Although this point is debatable, it is our duty to help other nations. We definitely do an excellent job at helping other nations and always having their best interests at heart. I believe this was the main goal for Obama’s speech; a plan to protect the United States. The use of logos, ethos and pathos just helped his speech to be more persuasive and
President Obama was no different. Five weeks after the election, President Obama met with his economic and political advisors that presented him with their reports of the rapidly deteriorating economic conditions and their plan to hinder the economy from collapsing. President Obama delegated the legislative work to party members and committees because, as a former legislator, he believed that giving Congress discretion in writing the bill would contribute to its enactment (Wayne, 2013). “In general, crises, when they first occur, enhance opportunities for presidential leadership” Stephen J. Wayne stated in Rivals of Power: Presidential-Congressional Relations. “Members of Congress, much like the general public, look to the president and rally behind him” (Wayne, 2013). At first, president Obama hit the ground running after he won the election, and immediately started to figure out with his advisors on how to get the United States back on its feet again. And Congress members look up to the president just as much as American citizens do when the United States faces a crisis. Which in turn can boost the president’s and Congress’ relationship to American citizens. However, Obama’s operating style spawned criticism from both the Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats companied that he did not give much support for their
In our American society it is the role of the president to devise plans that will benefit our society as a whole. He might suggest that he has this plan to solve global warming our maybe he has concerns with the way a certain policy should be. Like presidents of the past president Obama has concerns and changes of his own he would like to put into place. Community colleges offer a wide range of degrees for cutting edge technical careers in today 's industries that help bridge opportunities to higher economic class. President Obama hopes to put into action policy that would make community college free to productive members of our American society this is an issue that merits a careful evaluation at both sides of the argument.
It was a brief speech that captivated a lot of matters that concern the American citizens exclusively and the world inclusively. He divided his speech into different sectors which are citizens’ sacrifice, the idea of service, adopting changes, promise of wealth, government harmony and dignity. The language used in the speech was flawless and applicable to the audience, who was the public, since he was using every day vocabulary. Therefore, the speech has a strong structure that can be easily understood by the majority of people. The audience typically will and was the American citizens, but since the United States has many international relationships, President Obama was trying to reach beyond the nationwide concerns and meet a mutual background....
Barack Obama’s campaign speech, “A More Perfect Union,” not only is it one of the best campaign speeches ever given, but also a great outline for the needs of America and what to do to create a more perfect union. He outlines that we can take care of all the races of America who do not have health care as long as we take it on together, that the real problem isn’t someone taking your job, it’s the corporation sending it overseas for a profit, and that we’ll show our patriotism by caring for the men and women of every color who serve and fight together by giving them the benefits they have earned. However, this campaign speech is almost eight years old and the question is did Barack Obama and we the people do
Watching President Obama change over the years, during his terms, is heartbreaking. Having so many people watching every move that you’re making is stressful. But he did an amazing job of not showing if he was worried about something, or if he was really tired. He kept everything “under control” and didn’t let everybody see that side of
The speech was very successful: people from both sides praised his bravery, and later the same year, Obama demolished McCain in a close victory to secure his presidency. After his former preacher, Jeremiah Wright, gave such a demand for this discussion by making claims that the U.S. government treated black people harshly, Obama was pretty much forced to act. And with great credence and rhetoric, he did. The soon to be president, and also the first African American man to be president, first sets ground for his speech by inserting himself into the context of the racial history of America, creating the modern-day setting of a war that is centuries in age.
From the beginning, and throughout his speech he used in the most effective way rhetorical tools to support his beliefs. The rhetoric tool such as ethos, pathos and logos. He used ethos used to gives his audience a better understanding of who his character is. For him to establish an effective speech of ethos, Obama had to present himself in a way that will make the audience believe in his beliefs as well. In this speech Obama creates his ethos in many different ways that gives his speech not only credibility but, validity also. Obama does
The Orlando Shooting, the tragic event when an ISIS member shot and killed many people at a gay nightclub. A security guard named Omar Mateen, who had pledged allegiance to a terrorist group called ISIS, had entered the night club and opened fired on the people in the club. By the end of the shooting, forty-nine people had lost their lives and fifty-three people were injured. The whole country was shocked and upset about the event that took place on June 12th, 2016. As our nation 's President, Barack Obama had to reassure the country that they would do everything in their power to help the victims, the families of the victims and everyone else. He would do everything in his power to make sure
Obama makes clear and simple arguments throughout his speech to make it easier for his audience to understand his stand point. His arguments are well organized which makes it even more simpler to grasp the key idea, which is to pass the DREAM Act. Obama says in his speech, “And as long as I’m president, I will not give up on this issue, not only because it’s the right thing to do for our economy — and CEOs agree with me — not just because it’s the right thing to do for our security, but because it’s the right thing to do, period. And I believe that eventually enough Republicans in Congress will come around to that view as well.” He clearly states that DREAM Act should be passed by the Congress to give hope and relief to these talented and driven young individuals. He asserts that dreamers are beneficial to the U.S. economy and this act will be a step to its progressive future ahead. In conclusion, Obama’s speech was powerful and persuasive. He conveys a simple message, which is to pass the DREAM Act. His arguments were well supported by examples to make them more compelling. Obama’s stance on DREAM Act is clear and straightforward. He emphasizes to care about this act because these kids deserve to live a better
