Reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions are a type of reaction that transfers electrons from one ion to another. Within these reactions, electrons are transferred from one reactant to another in which they either gain or lose electrons during the reaction. A product that has gained an electron is said to have been reduced, while products that have lost electrons are said to have been oxidized. During a redox reaction, there are two types of agents which are the oxidizing and reducing agent. The oxidizing agent is the reactant that gains electrons and the reducing agent is the reactant that loses electrons during a reaction.

In this experiment, the standardization of potassium permanganate and the titration of iron salt were utilized in order to figure out the percent of iron within a redox reaction. Based on the data attained, the results illustrated that the percent of iron salt in the unknown salt (Tarzan) that was obtained through our professor was low with only about 20% of iron salt in the mix. All in all, the group can reject the null hypothesis which was the percent of iron would be high and accept the alternative hypothesis which was the percent of iron would be low.
