Science behind Sports
As technology advances so does the sciences and medicine. They all tie in together. Sports play a huge part in many different aspects of life and even science. Performance enhancing drugs in sports have become a huge deal in recent years. Over recent times doping with-in professional and amateur sports has increased dramatically. Doping has effects on the human body, positively but also negatively. The use of PED affects our daily living from peak performance to side effects that break the body down.
So what are performance enhancing drugs (PED)? Performance enhancing drugs also known by different names like steroids are what it sounds like. They are different types of substances that enhance a player’s stamina, overall performance and recovery time. Players and bodybuilders use different types of PED for many different reasons. There are two types of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), exogenous and endogenous. Exogenous steroids are synthetic testosterone used to enhance the natural production of hormones in the body. Endogenous steroids is naturally occurring substances with-in the blood that is already present but is induced at a larger amount. Users take these forms of steroids or PED by injection, orally and sometimes a form of rub on cream. When users take any form of performance enhancer they have a peck time of about 6-12 weeks, in this time period they intake heavy dosage of steroids. There’s also a break period of about a couple of months in between there cycles.
Anabolic steroids aren’t only used for enhancing the performance of users but also for medical purposes as well. Anabolic steroids are also used for cases such as, delayed puberty, HIV, muscular dystrophy and also a...

Anabolic steroids are used medically, but are dangerous if used else wise. Anabolic steroids damage our bodies when used incorrectly. From liver problems to even death we have seen how performance enhancing drugs have a huge effect on the human body. Our daily lives are affected when the side effects of this drug is present in our system for prolonged amounts of time. As we saw records, gifts, prizes, respect and more was taken away from athletes who have been caught using steroids. Since the 1960’s these drugs have been abused. After many years there’s something being done to prevent any further deaths or permanent problems to young lives. From peak performance to broken down bodies, performance enhancing drugs is taking away lives and sickening others.
