Reflective Essay On The Spirit Of God

“The Spirit of the Lord is Here”, is the chorus of one of my favorite gospel songs. When I first heard the song, I was not certain how true it was. After all, how can the Holy Spirit be in the presence of my church’s congregation as well as other churches and comforting the homes of the sick and shut in and yet and still find the moment to answer a sinner’s plea? It is this type of question that immature Christians, such as myself, are not spiritually mature enough to understand the whole power of God, which is an attribute that strengthens his sovereignty. However, as I began to mature as a Christian, the theological teachings that were taught to me was based on the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. This theology, of course, has non-Christians …show more content…

This is proved in Genesis 1:1, when God creates the heaven and earth and in the book of John for it states: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (KJV). To fulfill the Old Testament prophecies God lowered Himself by taking on human form, thus, the word of God became flesh and his glory was seen as being the Son of God in the flesh and he was full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) Jesus, God incarnate, humbled himself and set aside his glory and privileges. Furthermore, according to scripture he has never stopped being God because; he is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 4:15, KJV) This proves the simultaneous existence of God the Father and God the Son being omnipresent and near when needed and is reassured in the gospel of Matthew when he wrote: “… and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:20, …show more content…

Jesus told his disciples that he will never leave or forsake them. (Hebrews 13:5, KJV) We as Christians should have faith that the comfort of the spirit dwells in us. Ryrie (1997) says that “Today the Holy Spirit lives in the beings of Christians only, and he does so in all Christians” (p. 95). In addition, just as Paul had to remind the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 3:16, when he said: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (KJV), Christians today also need the remembrance of this truth, subsequently can be found in the word of God. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:34, that God is seated in heaven with his son Jesus sitting on his right hand. Some Christians who may lack the spiritual maturity they need to understand “No matter where we may go, God is there by His Spirit—invisible, often imperceptible, but inescapable” (Price, D, p. 4, n.d. ). The evidence of this can be seen in Psalm 139: “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” (KJV). I conclude with author Dick Iverson’s words, he said “The name of The Holy Spirit is coupled with those of the Father and the Son” (1990, p. 3). The reference to this can be found
