For some, standing up in front of an assembly and presenting a speech is no huge deal. For others the concept of speaking in public is the most freighting situation imaginable. There are many steps a speaker can take to be better prepared to give a speech including the following steps. Before a presentation is ever given, a strong speech must be written to keep the attention of an audience. Next, confidence is crucial and without it the likelihood of failure rises. If these simple steps are followed then the act of giving a speech should be much easier. An effective way to ensure success while giving a speech is choosing a topic that is interesting or one that provokes a passionate response. The more intriguing the topic, the more interesting the presenter can make a speech. It starts by what the presenter is going to wear; dressing for success is an important aspect of giving a speech. Being well dressed and properly groomed increases confidence and makes the presenter more appealing to the audience. Furthermore, if unsure of proper composure observe the behaviors of others. Take mental notes of techniques that are used that may be helpful when presenting. For example, if there is something that is unique about hand positions or posture that may be useful then feel free to use those techniques. Although in the case there is only one presenter a plan should be made ahead of time that includes cue cards or designated areas to look if eye contact is too intimidating. Like in most aspects of life, public speaking is mind over matter and sometimes confidence needs to be found from within.
