Analyzing Mr. Paul Tuke's Baseball Presentation

Speaker Critique Assignment

On Friday September 23th, I attended Mr. Paul Tuke’ s public speech at WQ Room 127. The time was 6: 00 P.M-7: 00 P.M. He is an instructor who teaching in IEI English program. His presentation was talking about American baseball. He gave so much baseball background to audience. He said he love baseball, his favorite team in Arizona. At beginning, he gave every audience a vocabulary list about baseball. I thought that was helpful to understand his speech. The first part of his presentation “Baseball around the word.” He used power point to show a map included America and Asia. He explained baseball information in those countries. At beginning of the speech, he gave every on a piece of baseball vocabulary list and a piece of recreational quiz. He was wearing a baseball uniform. He asked a question about who like to play baseball to gained attention. And he led audience to preview the main points of the speech. He posted some funny pictures on power point.

He used Power Point when he presented. The power point was very helpful. He listed all the key words on it. It was easy to get main points. And the pictures were visual. He used the two different baseballs, baseball bat, mitten and baseball uniform to supported the information. It made audience to belief his speech. Also, he gave audience a lot of examples about how to play baseball.

When he did the speech, he managed time very well. The total was one hour. He organized the messages. He used the Motivated Sequence, presented the baseball game. He gained the attention of the audience. He showed problems and the solution about to play baseball. He also gave positive visualization regarding the implementation of the solution. For example, he showed the picture and a video to audience. Then he asked audience tried to play. It was effective. Audience could feel and touch the items. And audience can be practiced by the speaker’ direction. He developed interest and involvement. And he also strengthened
