Solving the Foreclosure Crisis

1008 Words3 Pages

The foreclosure crisis is not over, and threatens to cause the entire economy to collapse even further. There should be no shock in that. The economy is a delicate balance consisting of three areas. One of those areas is the housing market. Because the economy is affected in the other two areas, jobs, and consumer spending, it throws off the housing market. I owned a home in Colorado Springs for a year and a half. My husband and I did not lose our house to foreclosure, we sold it after a two weeks on the market. I am not a stranger to how hard it is to own a home, maintain it, insure it, keep other bills on track and keep a family afloat.

Now, instead of ignoring the black cloud of foreclosure hanging overhead, we need to do something about it. Yes, the lack of healthcare for the entire nation is an issue. However, that is not as important as millions losing the homes that they live in. The first step is that people need to stop blaming others for their problems. If change needs to happen, it takes individuals to make a change. Life and dealing with the foreclosure crisis is hard, but make the changes that need to be changed. I didn’t want to pay for a mortgage while I was going back to school. My husband and I moved into my parents’ house. It is hard going from owning your own home to living with parents, but we wanted to clear out debt and take care of our lives so that we can have a better future. Why is that important? It’s called “biting the bullet”. So many people refuse to grow up and make the sacrifices that need to be made. That is one of the issues leaving the foreclosure crisis stagnant. It won’t matter how many loans or grants that are given out, until people know how to manage money and property.

...nning. No one is ever going to agree on everything that a company does, or the a president does. We should all agree on one thing though. Responsibility was one of the keys that made the nation great in the first place. In the insurance industry, they have a system where if one insurance company becomes insolvent, meaning that if they are unable to pay for their losses, the other companies have to help cover their losses. Instead of having the government back the banks, the banks should back themselves.

If I could tell President Obama a few things, they would be this: teach responsibility, stop giving money to people to do nothing, bring back the government to the people. Didn’t it start out being “for the people, by the people”? If you really want to bring change, start by changing the people. Hopefully everyone will follow your lead and be responsible as well.
