This goal brings to light that the most substantial issue with solar energy is that it can often seem to be too expensive for the general public. Scientists and the government are working diligently to produce more cost efficient and affordable forms of solar energy by changing the materials they use and the methods used to harness the power the sun can provide. In his 2012 article “More Affordable Solar Power,” Dan Chiras adamantly points out that the price for solar panels are falling “thanks to increased demand, mass production and intense competition among manufacturers.” In addition, he points out that solar panels can last over 30 years and that government incentives reduce the price of solar systems substantially causing solar panels that originally cost tens of thousands of dollars to plummet in price.
