The information in this paper will discuss the three major sociological perspectives of functionalism, conflict and interactionism. One must first possess an understanding of Sociology, which is the study of society and social interactions. With the understanding of sociology and the factors that make studying the social interactions an interested topic of sociologists. There have been many changes in the family structure in families in the United States as the dynamics of families have been reversed. In the average family in the United States, there are still many single mother families or two-parent families that due to economic changes only one parent works and provides for the family. Many families consist of extended family members (www.Openstax.org, 2016). Society in some instances can influence or dictate how an individual perceives oneself and others. On one hand, some individuals believe that the value of others is based on one’s economic, financial or educational status is solely based on their family infrastructure. On the other hand, some people believe that one’s values or beliefs are based on what society places on an individual’s social status.
The Sociological perspective of functionalism focuses on how different parts of society function together and contribute to society as a whole. The functionalism perspective according to philosopher and biologist, Herbert Spence, were based more on the similarities between the human body and society. Although, Spence’s theory was applied by others such as, Emile Durkheim, who wanted to explain the society changes and how they survive over time (www.Openstax.org, 2016). Professional social networking such as Linkedin and other provide the professional interaction with others on a professional level as it pertains to jobs, education or other avenues where they share the same profession or status. Functionalism and conflict perspectives although in some ways are similar and each compliments the understanding of social networking as it contributes to society. Each of those perspectives in some ways can be noticed in many social networking sites that shows how society functions and many sites demonstrate the competitions of society to find a date or have the highest friend list. Sociology is an important part of our society but is has evolved to reflect the changes in society and the growth of different cultural changes in society.
