Social work is defined as “the assessment, remediation and prevention of social problems, and the enhancement of social functioning of individuals, families, and communities” (Hick, 2006, p. 13). This can be accomplished through counselling services between a client and social worker, helping create and support service programs, along with developing social policies (Hick, 2006). Although this may help someone understand the duties of a social worker it does not investigate why people become social workers. To discover why someone chooses this profession, a personal reflection is necessary, along with an understanding of the attributes that may help or hinder one’s ability to be a good social worker.

... work (2009). Another attribute that I have to help my ability to be a good social worker is that I believe that everyone truly has the ability to change. This is one of attributes found in a good social worker by Tam’s study (2009). I think that with the proper skills and determination that people can change their lives. Since I have some attributes that are seen in a good social worker, I believe that these attributes will help my ability to be a good social worker.
In conclusion, I feel like I could become a good social worker. I do possess some qualities that could affect my suitability for the profession, but through acknowledging and fixing these qualities I believe that I can become a good social worker. Through practice in the field and further education I have no doubt that I will be able to gain the required skills in order to become an ideal social worker.
