I therefore have chosen to become a social worker. While traveling around the world I found that I am capable of dealing calmly, sensitively and supportively with people in fraught and stressful situations. With this in mind I believe that a MSW would best suit. me as it would allow me to use those skills in order to help and support people. My goal is to continue on to post graduate studies at which point I would like to specialize in health and mental health issues that are faced by military veterans while understanding the policies that impact the military, veterans and service

There is no one motivating factor that stered me to the field of social work. It was the totality of events and experiences in my early childhood that opened my eyes to the field of social work. The decision to pursue a career in social services was decided upon after many years of reflection, contemplation, soul searching, and questions. Before beginning the journey into my dream career, I ask myself a series of questions. What can I offer as a social worker? Can I set aside my own perceptions and values? What populations or situations would I feel uncomfortable working with, if any? Am I empathic enough to not only feel but understand? What is my motivation for pursuing a career in social services?

47). Social workers advise clients how to attain resources, rather than just providing them. The idea is to include clients in their journey to success and feel a sense of control in their life. I personally believe encouraging empowerment is a critical aspect of a social worker’s roles and responsibility. Engaging clients in setting their own goals is essential, and ultimately more beneficial to them. Clients should be able to access resources on their own; additionally, they can use the assistance of friends, families, communities, and organizations. One of the core values of a social worker is, Importance of human relationships. I would to begin this paper with an authentic definition of the Social Work field. Social work practices involves facilitating change—in other words, working with others, not doing something to them or for them(Dubois). Most people and social workers would always use the world ‘help’ in some way or form when defining social workers. They can work in nursing homes, hospitals, and even in legislation.

To me, the profession’s primary focus is to help others through life as much as we can while letting them make their own choices and guiding them. In society, social workers are utilized in many different nonprofit and government roles. They serve the community in many different ways from monitoring parent visits to helping people through mental illnesses. Human beings are so complex and things that happen
