From Online to Offline: Adolescents Social networking has become a norm in our society. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Myspace are but a few examples of the relatively new phenomenon of online social networking that play a significant role in our daily lives. The popularity of online social networking sites is constantly growing having people of all ages signing up for this sites by the million. Social networking has without a doubt contributed to many positive things in our lives, it allows us to share and communicate with friends and family, meet new people, and stay connected with the world, but social networking also has its negative effects. Social networking affects teenagers in particular. This group of people are more vulnerable to social media not only because they are the heaviest users of online networking but because they lack self-regulation and are more susceptible to peer pressure. A Nationwide survey by the National Campaign to Support Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, found that a shocking 20% of teenagers participated in sexting. Furthermore, the permanence and pervasiveness of the Internet makes it easier for teenagers to spread such information and make it go viral. Teenagers do not think that they will hurt anyone by sharing personal information or pictures about others online but what they don’t know is that it can have serious consequences for the victim. According to research, 17% of teenagers admittedly share the messages they receive with other people and at least 55% of sexters teenagers share the messages with more than one person. By sharing such personal information it brings the victim personal trauma and humiliation because their pictures and messages go viral and everyone who has access to the Internet is able to see
