The impact of informatics on society over the past few decades has aided in transcending the boundaries of Healthcare, Education, communication and Security systems across the world. There is a wide variety of definitions for informatics, it is often called as the science of information but has a much broader meaning to it. The University of Sussex defines informatics as the study of storage, transformation and communication of information. In hindsight to the early developments of informatics, it is clearly seen that the many departments of science were interconnected and the ability to synthesize information was made possible with the emergence of informatics. Ever since the advent of informatics, so many ideas were drawn out from different branches of science and collaborated with other departments while simultaneously contributing to it; for instance, Bio-informatics is a study of biological molecules such as DNA/genes by integrating multiple subject areas such as applied mathematics, computer science and statistics (Gerstain, 1998). When examining the historical perspective of Informatics, one of the reasons for its development was as a tool for people to understand the very nature of the information system and processes in order to create a better social environment. It is important to discuss the developments in informatics by analysing its enormous impact on various aspects of the society. Some of the major milestones in informatics will be discussed further in the essay. Informatics has played a vital role in the development of Healthcare organizations all around the world. Introduction “Health informatics is the science that underlies the academic investigation and practical application of computing and communications technology to healthcare, health education and biomedical research” (UofV, 2012). This broad area of inquiry incorporates the design and optimization of information systems that support clinical practice, public health and research; understanding and optimizing the way in which biomedical data and information systems are used for decision-making; and using communications and computing technology to better educate healthcare providers, researchers and consumers. Although there are many benefits of bringing in electronic health systems there are glaring issues that associate with these systems. The
Health informatics is best described as the point where information science, medicine, and healthcare all meet. It encompasses the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and the use of information in health and biomedicine. Health informatics incorporates tools such as: computers (hardware and softwar...
He then adds that not only does Newman have security cameras but the entirety of England has about 1.5 million police surveillance cameras, which is more than any other country. The essay is packed with statistics that allows the reader to put everything into perspective and make comparisons between our country and another which creates an easy informative
After reading for this week assignment, I realized how in depth how useful informatics could be regarding which area of nursing practice you are at, and it is not just the use of computer when it comes to informatics. I would revise my definition of informatics is that informatics is the combination of nursing science, information science, and computer science. The use of informatics and technology helps to support the nursing practice, and it is associated with nursing education and nursing research (Mastrian & McGonigle, 2012).
The present environments for healthcare organizations contain many forces demanding unprecedented levels of change. These forces include changing demographics, increased customer outlook, increased competition, and strengthen governmental pressure. Meeting these challenges will require healthcare organizations to go through fundamental changes and to continuously inquire about new behavior to produce future value. Healthcare is an information-intensive process. Pressures for management in information technology are increasing as healthcare organizations feature to lower costs, improve quality, and increase access to care. Healthcare organizations have developed better and more complex. Information technology must keep up with the dual effects of organizational complication and continuous progress in medical technology. The literature review will discuss how health care organizations can provide effective care by the intellectual use of information.
My overall vision is to develop and promote information technology solutions to better improve health outcomes, patient safety, and prevention of medical errors in underserved countries. In closing, Health informatics and Health Information Management is an exciting program that is designed to provide me with a suite of resources to help me develop essential leadership, teamwork, and healthcare management skills that will help me to become successful leader in healthcare
Nursing informatics is a branch of nursing or area of specialty that concentrates on finding ways to improve data management and communication in nursing with the sole objective of improving efficiency, reduction of health costs and enhancement of the quality of patient care (Murphy, 2010). It is a growing area of nursing specialty that combines computer science, information technology and nursing science in the management and processing of nursing information, data and knowledge with the sole objective of supporting nursing practice and research. Various nursing theorists have formulated various theoretical frameworks or models related to nursing informatics (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2013). They are defined as a cluster of related concepts or ideas that establish actions that act as major guidelines in nursing informatics to issues related to the central concept of data, information and knowledge. Some of the theories that inform and assist in the framing of nursing informatics include Turley's nursing informatics model, Goossen’s framework for nursing informatics research and Staggers & Parks’ nurse-computer interaction framework (Elkind, 2009).

Nursing Informatics is a nursing field that involves record keeping and focuses on finding ways to improve information management and communications in nursing to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance the quality of patient care. This field is primarily administrative but plays a part in patient care and quality of health care. There are other types of nurses, but many people focus on the nurses who perform the medical treatments with the doctors. This is evident in many films, TV shows, and in other popular media outlets. However, many people do not know what nursing informatics is nor pay attention to that side of nursing which involves the documentation of records and other miscellaneous items, use of advances in technology to improve
The past decade has seen a proliferation of law enforcement security cameras in public areas, with central London having more cameras than any other city. In cities like New York, Los Angeles, and central London, cameras can be found at almost every intersection. Terrorist attacks have been a major basis for this significant increase in law enforcement security cameras; however, privacy advocates, along with many of the public, feel that it’s an invasion of privacy. People are concerned that all this video surveillance, which is continuously expanding, has created a “Big Brother” society, where people are constantly watched. This creates paranoia and unease for people that just want to go about living there private lives, without feeling that their every move is being watched. The increased presence of surveillance cameras is almost compared to George Orwell’s novel from 1984, where he imagined a future in which people would be monitored and controlled by the government. One question that needs to be asked is: does the benefits of law enforcement security cameras outweigh the negative sides to it? Although the invasion of privacy is a serious argument against law enforcement cameras; nevertheless, it should be seen as a valuable tool to help fight crime. As long as surveillance cameras are in public places and not in people's homes, privacy advocates should not be concerned.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is reshaping the health care system in the United States at an accelerating rate. In earlier times US Healthcare system was more focused on intervention of diseases, but now it is moving more towards preventive approach and I see Health IT as the most important tool that can lead this change. I strongly believe that my professional goals, range and depth of my experience and knowledge is an asset and my enthusiasm for the field makes me an ideal candidate for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University.
If nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computer and Information Technology have domineered since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood.
The Impact of Information Technology on Individuals, Society and Organizations Information systems and information technology are important in supporting, maintaining and enriching many aspects of livings. They bring benefits to lives of individuals, operations of business and the functioning of society but there are also drawbacks associated with technology and information system. Both good and bad impacts of information system and technology to individuals, organisations and the society will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs.
