It may not seem like a bad idea to post a negative post on Facebook in the moment, but what happens the next day when one walks into work and is told that they are fired? Probably doesn’t seem so nice now, after being fired. Now finding a new job that actually supports everything is all of a sudden difficult, all because of that one post. Social media is growing, while privacy is diminishing, one may think they are safe because of the privacy settings that social media has set up, but what are the risks that come with social media? When signing up on social network, most people skip the privacy policy segment. Twenty-five percent of households with a Facebook account don’t use the site 's privacy controls or weren 't aware of them. In some cases, employers can hire third-party companies to monitor their employees on social networks. Although, some states have laws that prohibit employers from disciplining an employee based what they post on social networking sites. Due to this law, many companies have social media policies that limit what one can and cannot post on social networking sites about the employer. (Clarke) Posting negative posts about a current job could harm an applicant’s chances of finding and receiving a new job after one was fired.
