In today’s global marketplace, there is no age restriction as to when someone is introduced to social media. In fact, it has become the norm. Social media has had such a tremendous impact on our culture within the global marketplace and the way we conduct ourselves as a business on the world stage. Not only is You Tube popular in the United States, but in several other cultures around the world as well, provided that the means exist for them have access. However, there are those countries who prohibit the use of You Tube as social media may have a negative impact on their society. Some of the most popular hits on the internet have been social media websites. The way people communicate and socialize has been revolutionized by social media websites. With social networks, the opportunity exists for those wishing to re-connect with their old friends and acquaintances, make new friends, trade ideas, share content and pictures, and many other activities. The latest global and local developments, are at their fingertips and they can participate in activities of their choice.
With computer technology increasing on a daily basis, the use of social media will become more widely used than ever before. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that transnational mass media intensify the hybridity that is already in existence in cultures across the globe. Consequently, the globalization of culture through the media is not a process of complete homogenization, but rather one where cohesion and fragmentation coexist (Krady, 2002).
