Supplementary Connections Social media is defined by Meriam-Webster as “forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content” (Merriam-Webster). That definition does not capture the essence of what social media has become to each person individually. It is as if social media has become an extension of the person itself, when referring to the popular sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. It is used for self-expression, networking, and sharing experiences. One major benefit of social media, that I have personally experienced, is that it can be used to connect me to people over large distances. I participate in a few social media sites. Some with more regularity than others. The two that I use most frequently are Facebook and Instagram. I use each of them to express myself but in very different ways.
