Social media is a network or site that was created for our enjoyment. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and twitter are all forms of social media. There are very few positive things about social media, but there are a lot negative things. Here are a few, social media can be a distraction, it can also be used for cyber bullying and it is used to steal people’s identities.
Social media is a big distraction for most Americans. It keeps you from doing things that need to be done. It is hard to put away sometimes. It makes it hard to focus when you are scrolling through your notifications. Most people become addicted to it, therefore it is almost torture for them to go without social media even for a day. Cyber bullying is a big issue in our culture today. It is where someone posts hurtful things about you on the internet. It can also be used to put people down. People also use it to post pictures or things you do not want posted. People also use it to do awful things to others and post it and there is no way for the person to take it down unless the person that posted it does it for them. People use social media to spread lies. What people post on social media can affect others, even if it seems harmless, always take a second look before you post something, because most people do not. Most people do not care what they post or who it may affect. Whether it’s something small like posting a picture of a group of people and leaving someone out. Or something major like publicly shaming someone. Cyber bullying does happen and it only happens through social media. Cyberbullying also provides anonymity to the bully not possible with traditional bullying. Because of this, bullies cannot see the reactions of their victims and studies have shown that they feel less remorse. Cyberbullying is opportunistic because it causes harm with no physical interaction, little planning and small chance of being caught. Despite this, 40% to 50% of cyberbully victims report knowing who their tormentor
