According to the Pew Research Center, more than half of adult internet users around the world also use social networking platforms. While social media is certainly a global sensation, it has greater penetration in certain parts of the world.
In general, developing countries in Asia and the Middle East boast higher rates of social media users. In Jordan, Indonesia and the Philippines, for instance, about 90 percent of people online also use social networking sites. In the U.K., the U.S. and Australia, closer to 70 percent of internet users spend time on Facebook and Twitter.
Developing Nations Have the Greatest Potential for Growth
In Western Europe and North America, social media saturation has largely reached its peak. That means there’s little room for growth in these parts of the world, and content marketers might not see their reach increase substantially here.
