Thevenot has stated that, “blogging has become one of the most popular social media and networking tools.” Although there are many blog styles, I am concerned with looking at blogs specifically within the fashion industry, and how high-end fashion designers and reputable brands are turning to social media channels to not only inform, but also increase their consumer base through brand exposure. Newly emerging as this visual industry’s most trusted influencers, fashion bloggers provide for a means for designers to not only show, but also inform, a larger, global audience of their brand and their products.

Brands work largely with bloggers because they want to be exposed to a new consumer base and it helps establish authenticity. The fashion industry creates all the clothes that one is wearing at any moment of the day, from hats and hair accessories to undergarments to buttons to shoes. One could pursue either a creative or business career in the fashion industry. The fashion industry affects society both positively and negatively, especially negatively, in ways like eating disorders, providing sizes for plus-size consumers, and representation of plus-size models and ethnically diverse models. There are also problems within the fashion world, like counterfeiting of luxury brands, fast fashion, and working conditions in factories. Regulation within the fashion industry includes copyright protection of fashion designers, and whether extremely thin models are allowed to model in fashion shows or not. Though, the fashion industry is nothing new and will be around as long as people wear clothing, there are certain trends that are either losing or gaining attention.

Fashion models are used mainly to promote products focusing mostly on clothing and accessory. The two main type of modeling in the fashion industry is commercial modeling and high fashion modeling. High Fashion models usually work for campaigns, designer’s collections and magazine editorials for high fashion designers. Runway modeling also known as “catwalk modeling” is displaying fashion and is generally performed by high fashion models. In my research paper my main focus will be the effects of high fashion models based upon the industry’s unregulated standards.
