In the 20th century, it took very little time to find something fun to do. Outdoor activities such as sports, hide-and-go-seek, tag, etc. brought happiness to many around the world. By the end of the 90s, many turned away from these outdoor activities and looked to social media for entertainment. “The first social media site that everyone can agree actually was a social media website called Six Degrees” (Terrell). Six Degrees was the first site where one could make a profile and chat with friends. By the early 2000s, more than 100 million people had access to social media, and in 2003 the new giant came to scratch the surface of social media, Myspace. ...e same purpose: communication. For example, “Instagram caters to the kind of person that communicates through photographs best, and other platforms such as Twitter are perfect for those who communicate in short bursts of information” (Terrell). Even though one is not sure what the future of social media holds, but one can be certain that it will go on for generations. When more and more of these platforms are coming into the market, many people will become addicted even more than today. Even though some might say that social media helps with interaction with others and the economy, the overall picture of social media on society weighs heavier on the negative side than the positive side. It destroys the lives of many brilliant kids, and makes many more feel incompetent to reach goals. Overall, social media should be limited in the lives of this and future generations.
